    Hello,

The HDD on my M1330 is making some loud noises even though it seems to access data normally.

Dell is sending me a replacement drive. I would like to clone my current drive which contains a tweaked version of Vista and all installed programs.

I have a copy of Acronis True Image 10. I was unsuccessful in restoring a disk image containing Windows using True Image on a desktop computer (no hardware change). I had hal.dll error that stopped reinstall..

I read the TI manual but don't know what I did wrong on the last reinstall.

I booted up from an Acronis boot disk, loaded up TI, loaded up the disk image of the C(windows) partition.

    It didn't work.

    What was I doing wrong?

What can I do right this time?

    Thanks

Acronis can be fussy. Is the replacement HDD the same make / model as the old one? If not, Acronis may think the new HDD is slightly smaller than the old one and refuse to play ball.

You might want to try Casper instead. It's worked for me where Acronis TI has failed. There is a trial version.
