    Hi folks,

I have a collapsed left mouse button on my m1530 touchpad. The button still works but does not return to its original position so it is most likely the return spring (or whatever it is) that is broken.

The laptop is out of warranty so I'm looking for a way to fix this myself. I've tried searching for this part but with no success, and I can't find any pictures of this part to tell whether I can use some other substitute.

Any help would be appreciated (a link to a site with the appropriate part, pictures of the touchpad button insides, etc...).

    Thanks.

You need to buy the whole palm rest ( upper half of the lower clam shell) Not an easy fix-

search Dell 1530 palm rest on that famous auction site-

    Thanks for the reply.

Ouch. Looks like they're going for £25 a pop, and I'm way too tight-fisted to spend that much money on what is probably a broken spring. I'm trying to fix it to give the laptop to my mother, but it looks like she'll have to put up with the broken button, or use a mouse if I can't come up with a cheap solution.

You could just use tap to click on the touchpad. You can preform all left click functions with tapping.
    Tap once to click
Tap then tap and hold to drag
