Does anyone else here suffer from quite severe colour banding?

For example, if you take http://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/XPS_NB_1280x864_Black.jpg wallpaper, on my XPS, I get several distinct colour bands in the background as it fades to black instead of a nice smooth gradient.

This was a problem on the Asus A6Ja when it was released and they fixed it with a BIOS update of some description so I'm wondering if it is just my notebook, whether there is a known problem? etc.

I'm running at native res in 32bit colour on the 1440x900 LG display running Vista Home Premium with the 169.28 Nvidia drivers (from Laptopvideo2go).

    It's just the wallpaper itself.

perhaps check to see if you have 16-bit colors instead of 32-bit? (rightclick desktop, properties, settings tabs, middle right pop-down menu)
