Quote from the What Should I Buy Form:

It all depends on how much you want to fit on the screen. For casual users, even WXGA is good enough. As for brightness, this has nothing to do with the resolution, but the company from which you buy your laptop from. Vista users can change the brightness of the screen by going to Power Options in the Control Panel, so brightness shouldn't really be an issue when buying a laptop.

well i know that the wxga+ led screen is like 40% more brighter then the wxga ccfl. so yes brightness is a fact in most laptop purchases. even the wuxga is a brighter screen.

At maximum brightness, I don't think any one of these screens are going to be significantly brighter or dimmer than the others. If there is some variation, it'll be on a manufacturer by manufacturer basis (assuming Dell isn't using a single manufacturer for each screen resolution), and you won't have any control over what you get in the first place.

Not so much......I have a 2 M1520's one with a regular CCFL WXGA+ and one with a LED WXGA+, the LED Screen is noticeably and significantly brighter than the CCFL.

Dell uses several manufacturers and models for the same screen type (WXGA, WXGA+, etc), and they are all not the same.

Well of course if you are comparing CCFL and LED, the LED is going to significantly brighter than CCFL. I was implying that with all other things, including backlighting, held constant, display resolution should not change the brightness. I suppose I should have specified in retrospect.

Yeah, I just read it real quick when I replied, but i see what you were saying now. You're right, there probably isn't a huge difference. Although I know there's one version of a WXGA or WXGA+ thats grainy and EVERYBODY hates....don't get that one lol.

wuxga will have the most real estate out of the 3. more real estate = more productivity.

vista lets u change all icon and font sizes via DPI settings, so visibility shouldn't be a huge factor. the "right" screen all depends on what yur intended uses are. best way to find out is goto a store and physically check them out yurself.

I have the WXGA and I am perfectly happy with it, could be a little brighter during daylight but the price was good. I play games on it and they look great, I hook it up to my HDTV and it looks great. Really it is all about user preference as well as $

The WXGA is not bad, but low resolution and a little grainy, the WUXGA is REALLY Sharp, but everything is so small (including text), my eyes hurt. The happy, VERY happy medium is the WXGA+, it is sharp and great on my eyes.

I had all three, and am super happy with the 1440x900 WXGA+ LED

I've the wuxga, its very sharp and high-res pictures and videos look amazing on it.
The only problem is that it's not that bright. Even in a dimly lit room.
I wouldn't advise it if you do a lot of work outside.
