So, much as I love my SXPS1645, I've had it with it. Constantly overheating even when just sitting in Windows without anything running.

I've sent it in for repairs 3 times now, but I didn't have any luck convincing the technical support rep that it needs replacing.

I have Dell Complete Care for the next 2 years. What I want is a laptop that isn't going to have the issues this thing has.

I've heard from some folks on here that they've been offered the Alienware M14 or the XPS15 as replacements for their 1645. My question is, how do you get the reps to offer that for you? What needs to happen for the planets to align? I've been as courteous as possible with them on the phone, so I'm wondering if this is a geographic thing (I'm in Canada) or I just don't know what I'm doing here.

    Any helpful advice or tips?

I would recommend you to speak to a Dell representative with firm stand that you are unhappy with your laptop and would not give in until they meet your demands. I think you need to put across to them that you are pretty upset with your laptop. Otherwise they would just try to brush you away. So far, my average call time to a Dell representative is 100 minutes per call.

You know, the laptop could accidentally fall into a pool..

No but in all seriousness, the way I understand how CC works is if it is completely totaled, you get a new one (excessive water damage, dropped off the Empire State building). However Dell would normally consider replacing the unit if it has been in too many times (overheating, GPU melting). If they replace your unit you also get the CC warranty on the new unit, but try to call up Dell and protest your situation in a calm and cool manner.

Well I understand what you are going through. And with that M14x i guess you are referencing me I guess.

First of all, Yes its a geographical thing. People in USA seem to get an approval for replacement easier then anywhere else (I live india).

Well to get my way through I emailed [email protected] stating my complete case history. I was was offered not just M14x but M17x aswell as I had the much $$$ and craved RGBLED screen but in the end I approved for XPS as I am no gamer and I wanted portability which I got with XPS and that B+RG LED screen is also good.

Just Email [email protected] and make a case for yourself.

Tip : If in case you want AW for replacement then just reject whatever they offer you complaining about built issues or looks or whatever and finally they would offer you AW.
