Everything was fine with the unit until last night, I have M1330 .. 4gb ram, 2.6ghz, 320 gb hard drive - anyway's I was playing COD4, game lagged.. froze.. had to restart the unit - today the screen seems somewhat grainy, and it definately wasn't like this before.

I'm also experiencing more sound from the laptop then before.. not loud but much more frequent.

Vista has also been a bit laggy, and various simple tasks (IE, nvidia control panel) seem to lagg out and not respond...

Playing a game can do this? Any solutions or explanation for any of this ??

I've only had this unit for just over a month, really don't want to send it back and wait for another one.. (or how does replacement work)?

Sorry lots of questions, but very eager to know..

    Thanks

I hope you don't have a GPU problem.

Was your laptop properly ventilated when you played COD. Did you feel it was heating up more than usual? What settings did you use for COD 4? Did you monitor temps with Riva whilst playing?

Your symptoms remind me of a situation I had with on of my ATI Vivos. I was playing a game, everything went fine, after 1 hour, i had pixel aberations, whirlwinds on the screen, game froze, restarted and XP was super laggy. Mouse would barely move. I reinstalled everything without thinking my card was gone. After 2 reinstalls, I opened my pc, took out the card and replaced it...windows was working. As soon as I put the VIVO back, windows was lagging. It was like, no hardware support for video...

yeah, u probably pushed ur gpu too far, that might explain a kind of minor artifacting on the screen which is the graininess. u should call dell. is the 30 day return still in effect for u?

I think it's that too, It's lagging like hell... I didn't edit any settings on COD4, and I didn't run anything to test it.. I had headphones on, it was ventilating the way it will with anything that uses a lot of resources the fan gets faster.. and yes this screen issue was definately not there before - I re-installed the nvidia driver and still the same issue.

If this laptop can't run COD4 thats pretty sad.

This is what I have, not sure if it falls under the 30 day thing or?

    try this one http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=204772
whole bunch of stuff regarding the overheating issue of the M1330

By the way, what bios version are you running? (suggest you upgrade to A11 if youre using A10, for other BIOS version, im not too sure what is best... some say A09 is ok)

    what are your current temps?

Call dell right away and don't play anymore games. What warranty did you get?

Depending on when your M1330 is shipped, if it shipped on 5/21, then the 30 days to return is over, 6/20. Go check your invoice date.

GPU temps seems... "normal," I reached 105C when playing Oblivion on medium.

That's wayyyy hot. Even if he's out of the 30 days though, he's still covered with his warranty from manufacturer's defects, which this is.

I don't think you should worry as much, as I have read that the M1530 has a better cooling system (direct contact vs M1330's thermal pads).

Ask Dell to be sure. I expect they'll want to replace the card rather than the whole laptop.

    NO!
He will have to change the MOBO
because the GPU is a BGA CHIP that is soldered directly to the MOBO.

Which model you were thinking about?- 1730?
In the 1530 I believe it's the same as 1330.

I called them - they said they will send out a tech on wedsday night, he will come with parts.. if all is good, then he leaves. If not they send me a new laptop, once it's arrived - I send their one back.

    Sounds good or?

Btw I just got weird lines before startup >_>
