I just received my SXPS 13 today (13 days ahead of schedule, yay) and wished to confirm Dell had sent me the WLED option (as I had canceled a previous order on which the representative was misinformed of the product and included a CCFL monitor on the order).

Is there any easy way to do this? I thought I had seen this question asked before but I suddenly can't seem to find it.

easiest - there are 15 steps of brightness on the WLED; verse 7 on the CCFL
medium - check the device ID in the device control panel; and google the LCD to see if its WLED or CCFL
hardest - take apart the display assembly and check the hardware itself

Right click on my computer>Device Manager>Monitors>Properties>Details Tab>Click on the Property drop down list and select Hardware ID's.
If you see "MONITOR\SEC5441" then you have the LED.

BTW the SEC 5441 is also used in the XPS 1330, just thought I'd mention it.

Errm, wait what? I have an LGD0145 on my laptop.

EDIT: Nvm. A quick search here yielded someone else saying this is also an LED monitor model.

Just wanted to mention that my 1340 CCFL has 15 steps of brightness as well so don't go by that!

    Not true! See:
My Studio 1535 with a CCFL has 15 brightness levels as well. 16, according to the BIOS options. I want to know where this rumor about the number of brightness levels determining CCFL or LED started...I've had to tell people that's not true on multiple occasions.

It should say on your reciept or configuration sheet. Go online, log into your account, and look at the config. That is always right because the parts they put in are scanned along the way.

Dell may use different brand panels for the same laptop depending on availability and stock, so that isn't the best way to determine what you have.

Not true. I ordered a 1330 with the LED screen when they first began production in June 2007. They shipped me a ccfl and then replaced it with another ccfl before I finally got someone who understood the difference. It took 3 months and 5 replacements to get the 1330 with the LED I paid for.
