I want to try and re-enact the same thing as I have. Firstly do you have a login screen for your windows? If so reboot from that screen there in the bottom right.

Secondly do a factory default in the bios and make sure no hard drive password is set. Now try this Without the battery, Enable summary screen in advanced section of the bios save and exit. Watch the computer load and show the summary screen. Now when you see the login screen of windows go to the little button on the far right and restart. then watch the computer start up and does the summary screen show up? (do not access the bios on restart else you stop it from resetting)

I'll give Dell a call tomorrow and let them think about a solution. Since onetime I got the whole notebook replaced and one time I got a new screen, this would be the third repair on that machine. And regarding to german rights, I could easyly get my money back now... I'll give it a try.
Even if I am kind of sattisfied with this machine I am not willing to take any more kinds of errors...

I am too unsatisfied cause of this, let me know what happens with dell :) keep me posted. I should be getting new motherboard tomorrow or day after. Which I doubt will fix this perhaps new motherboard will bring more trouble, I'm not sure really if I should just send back the new motherboard when I get it and keep my old one...
But anyways I don't think dell will replace this for me either cause I purchased it through a store and not dell direct.

update: still have to check if its happening to erick_e, Gotoma, sheikhstone...

I had a talk to Dell today and told them the problem. I will get a new mainboard this week. But I am kind of pissed of. German law clearly states that they get two tries to repair a faulty item. After that I could even get my money back. But honestly I am not really sure if it has to be the same fault over and over again. Number one was a screen replacement, number two a new machine in exchange. He Tech-guy told me he cannot do anything more than get a repair for this. When I asked who could do more, all he said was something like 'lol, get a lawyer then'

At the moment I am hoping that a new Mainboard does not resolve the problem. Because then I can say 'lmao, give me my money back and goodbye'...

lmao Fusel I just got a new board yo open up your bottom cover and just on top of the heatsink near the ati chip u should see a revision number. Let me know what revision you got. On both your old motherboard and the new one that will be coming.

Also look at the battery you should see a date code. Tell me what you have and about what happened with dell all i gotta say is lol ridiculous.'

Ok, opened it. Battery date: 0202.10
On the mainboard I cannot see the whole numbers because of the heatpipes running over it. The only hings I can see are Rev A00 and Rev E

Rev E thats what u got :) perfect and battery dated feb 2 2010... did u get a new mb in ur pc? or when did u buy it?

My new mb is REV G lol i didnt look at my old one yet.

my battery says 09-02-10 which makes no sense.... cause it can either be september 2 2010 or feburary 9 2010 which is really older... So my guess is that its september 2 2010 but yet REV G?? Lol Yo they sent me so much parts, wires, cables for usb ports, all kinds of . Do you think I have to return all those cables?

on the packaging it says date code november 16 2010 then again anyone can write what they want on the packaging... boh I really don't get it must be the battery is old. I guess i'll keep the battery with most volts.

So if it is november 16 it might make sense REV G... ill check mine out when my gf brings it back to me lmao

Yes the Battery date is feb 2 2010, because I got my machine in late april last year.
I am getting a new mb in my studio xps. The technician should be calling me by tomorrow or so...
I am curious if the new revision will actually help...

let me know what happens lmao also get me the date code and revision of your new motherboard.

See what the technician does with the old / new cables does he leave them to you? Does he take them back? Ask him if you can keep it lmao.. I'm not sure if i need to send them back.

I'm assuming it's based off of A12 though, so it will have the low temperature threshold and be another (extra) throttley BIOS just like A10, A11, and A12.

UPDATE:HA GUYS it did it again!!! With bios A13!!!!

Try it, enable bios supervisor password and password on boot in a couple of reboots/shutdowns/hibernate/standby cycles with and without the power adapter you will notice it screw up.

I will try to exactly filter the process of making this issue appear again so it will help us all.
Tested it so far with bios A13 on 5 studio xps 1645's all same thing! I don't know what caused it per say but I started doing first on battery mode some regular restarts then did some shutdowns cycles, then a standby followed by a hibernate, then shutdown, then plug in ac adapter start it up and boom no bios password screen an indication of a reset! :p checked the bios all my settings were reset again :(

Note to the community we got one guy down :( Dell broke his computer changing his motherboard to fix this issue! My Sympathies out to Fusel Wusel! lol

I'm going to test this on my Studio. Coincidentally Dell also released new BIOS for Studio 1557 at the same time when they released SXPS 1645's & 1647's BIOS with the same fixes.

    Fixes and Enhancements
    • Fix Lojack malfunction issue.

Premature. I hibernated and resumed: WiFi was turned off (i.e. button function reset, a.k.a. BIOS reset).

    :(

What about other BIOS settings? The wifi turned off is not necessary caused by BIOS reset.
