As long as the partitions stay the same, I dont see anything bad about reformatting it.

You have the original drivers, right?

    Con = time it takes.

    Pros =
    1. Faster boot time (less background apps)
    2. More HD space (less programs installed)
    3. Better performance (less background processes)
    4. Cleaner registry & filesystem (no leftover keys/files/folders from installed bloatware)
    5. Possibility of installing x64 if you want to.

Can you just delete the partition that the OS was on, and format that area? Will it still be labeled "Drive C"?

AFAIK, windows always recognizes the boot partition as drive C.

Google. Find any of the XPS wallpapers (blue or any other color) and take it into photoshop or an online hue editor. You can change it to whatever.

On the Operating System recovery CD that came with my refurb Dell D410 it says, "CD is not for the reinstallation of programs or drivers." So does this mean that all the drivers my system needs are not included on this CD or just that if I have a driver go bad that I just can't reinstall that driver from the CD.

If I do a reinstall from the CD should I end up back exactly where my laptop was when I took it out of the box?

    Thanks!

    Monty

Okay i had finally able to extract the blue wallpaper! lol
i recently switched to vista 64 and thats why i had troubles extracting that darn blue wallpaper! but i have it now! haha

the Factory.wim of the recovery drive has it.
i'm getting a lil off-topic here but the only downside of reformatting is that it takes time, but in the longrun you'd have increased performance

you could either A) reinstall the drivers that came with ur xps,
or B) reinstall the drivers by downloading online

you can't retain ur drivers because you'd have to slipstream it in the windows cd if i remember it correctly, other than that you could restore to factory settings.

Me personally I wouldnt format. After going through 3 laptops, and always formating the 1st two laptops and deleting the recovery partition, I found it very handy 2 keep the recovery partition because it reinstalls all the drivers 4 you and the reinstall process of vista was quick. The only bloatware I had 2 uninstall was Macafee and goole programs and I was good 2 go. Just my 2cents.
