You seem like you just got the laptop, so it could be indexing, super fetch or something else.

Mine is the 320 GB 7200 seagate and it talks to me constantly. Don't get lonely anymore.

Its superfetch caching data into your RAM.

You can turn it off and see if it works out better for you.

Same here. I've had my M1530 for a few weeks now and the HD is constantly working (light blinking and I can hear it). I was actually going to post on here asking about it, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one!

Start > Run > services.msc (you have to be admin) > look down for "superfetch" and disable it if you don't want it to be running.

And remember, don't touch or mess with anything else in the services if you are really not sure. Good Luck.

But have you searched around the forums to understand better?

Yeah I did research it, and I think I will just leave it on..

Since Vista uses it to make me more productive I can live with the 5 mins of clicking after boot up..

Although if all this activity could make my HDD more likely to fail I will turn it off, is this the case?

I haven't come across a report / complaint that said the HD would fail because of the Superfetch or Indexing and stuff.... Cheers. Don't be too worried. :)
