Hello. I know this is a pretty old topic, but it is just hitting me. I have an m1330, purchased a year and a half ago. For the first year, it was hardly ever used, since it was by father's old back up machine that he didn't need for work. After 1 year, this past February, he gave me the laptop for college. It has been totally fine for 6 months, until it started choking up and freezing. A day or 2 later, and it died. My school IT (dell certified) said it was certainly an overheated gpu/ mobo.
Since I had the extended warranty, I was able to send my laptop in for repair. I just got it back last week, after being gone 2 weeks. Since then it has been perfect. I installed Rivatuner to monitor the temperature, and the gpu never went above mid 70's *C. I thought it was fine. Today, I left my laptop on while I was watching football in another room. When I came back, my computer was frozen. It wasn't doing anything stressful, so I restarted it. All of a sudden, the same errors reappeared. It cycles through the boot, never allowing it to load windows.
This is the exact same problem, with the new motherboard and bios. And it has only been a week of use. What is going on? I kept a close eye on the temperature, and never used it for anything stressful. It astounds me that my computer failed yet again, and so soon.
I believe I have a 3 month warranty, so I will see if I will be repaired again or what. Any help? Should I try to get a replacement model? The 1340 is the direct successor, but not sold anymore. Is that just as bad, or would it be a worthwhile upgrade? I guess I could always try to upgrade to the 1640, which may not be effected by the same problem?
Thank you,
David

Pressure for a XPS13 as a replacement.
This is a HUGE problem, stemming from the nVidia GPU, and spreading across many vendors (including HP).

Alright. I will push for a replacement. I tried to last time, but it seemed like I couldn't since it was the 1 year additional warranty. But the same rep said I would have an official 90 day warranty once I get it back. Therefore, I can guess a second failure and they will be more open to alternative solution?
How much better is the sxps1340 though? And what about the 16 models? Those are still for sale, does that mean they are better in terms of use and design? What can I even push for? -
If you are on Nvidia GPU addtional warranty, and not the paid extended warranty, I highly doubt they will give you a replacement system. I could be wrong though.

I believe when I called a few weeks back the rep said once I get my system back I will have a 90 day warranty? If thats not a dell warranty, then whats the point of it? I am still covered under the Nvidia GPU additional warranty until February.
