Hi all ! I have Dell SXPS 16. As its runs hot & making me keep it uncomfortable on my lap, i decided to buy a cooling pad.

-My config, Dell SXPS 1645 with screen size 15.5"

-I heard zalman is best , those are not available in india :( So suggest within CoolerMaster, Belkin, Logitech

-Price Range upto $50 or 2500INR

-I mostly use it to keep on my lap, rather than on desk.

    Thanks in advance guys :p

Do you mean a passive pad or an active cooler?

If you just want a raiser for your lap try -

    Xpad4Laptop.com - Design

Although it might not work with the 9 cell.

As for fan assisted coolers -

Cooler Master Notepal U2 holds up to 17" lappys and has adjustable fans.

The best performance will be if the fans line up with the intakes of the SXPS, so look for ones that do that.

    Hey!

    See this awesome thread:
Notebook Coolers : A Buyers Guide

    Very, very helpful.

The Zalman Coolers and Cryo's are pretty nice for the XPS 16xx's also :)

Hi thanks for replying. I have already mentioned that Zalman cooling pads are not available.

I have asked people who own this , but they are saying it will be heavy to keep this on lap for long hours.

I play games keeping it on table, never on my lap.

& I use for long hours 3-4 hours keeping it on my lap for net surfing & microsoft office.

So suggest me such a cooling pad which can be kept on lap as well as on table.

    Thanks in advance

Lol. You know, the sXPS 16 isn't really a "lap" top. Too hot to be one.

But anyways, how hot are u guys' sXPS anyways? Because I hear ppl saying theirs being extremely hot but mine only runs at like 108-110F cpu and around 115F gpu and I don't use a cooler.

It's about 3 kg (6.4 lb) plus a bit for the charger, which isn't too heavy personally... my uni laptop was substantially more weighty...

As for temps 45 C would be a bit too toasty for me to use on my lap, you would tend to cook your delicates...

But you already have the notebook and should know that...

From what I can tell from notebookcheck, this picture is taken from before the whole 130 watt thing (October 2009). My laptop gets way hotter than 115F in the middle under max load, probably around 145F-160F. Honestly, 115F is nothing- depending on where you're from, an ambient temp of 115F could be described as "a kind of hot day".

To answer your question, from what I've read, there was a slight redesign of the ventilation system between the 1640 and 1645 but I've never seen the bottom of a 1640.

Honestly just find something you like the look of and you should be fine. If it has a fan thats a bonus, but remember a laptop at full tilt will not go from hot to cool with just a cooler. I have a NZXT cryo modded to have the 3 120MM fans run at full power and speed and still that is not enough to mae a warm laptop cold or cool to the touch. Does it help the temps? Sure does, but nothing earth shattering.

Mine weighs in at 3284grams (using a digital scale). Specs in my signature.

I've just spent the last month travelling through Thailand and Malaysia and I'm now in London.

It's pretty heavy to carry. If you are going to use it to travel then I wouldn't recommend it. I knew it was going to be heavy but I needed the specs as I'm a software developer who heavily uses virtual machines.

As for using it on your lap. It's not all that comfortable. Esp with the 9 cell battery. It's just too heavy and hot to use on your lap for extended periods of time. I did do it for short periods just to check emails and facebook.

My N100 Logitech cooling pad is not heavy at all. nearly light as a feather. The photos on the product show that you can indeed use it on your lap. I never use my laptop on my lap so it's always on a desk.
