Does anyone here play Counter-strike Source on the XPS 17, i was wondering what your settings are and your XPS 17 Specs. I have a GT555m, i7 2630QM playing everything on reccomended ( everything is high ) with 1080p ( 1920 x 1080 ) resolution. I'm pretty sure this should get more than constant 60 FPS but its not its like 40-50 average with 30 FPS Drops and sometimes 60 at certain places. If i'm wrong or doing something wrong please tell me. My Video driver is updated to the latest one.

just read a post typing mat_queue_mode 2 in console made me jump to 70-80 FPS ( happy ) =D was wondering if thats as high as it can go..

I think that's kind of low anyway. I'm playing everything maxed out in 3d without overclocking and get most of the time 40, sometimes drops to 30s'. If i turn off 3d i get 100-115. Haven't played around with it too much though.

All this with a few bots, so i would believe you should be able to expect more from your config

and all this without using any console tricks

Do not worry. CS source is not so good for a new core i series cpu. Cause it is so old, that can't always use Nvidia properly. And integrated GPU can't do best with this game, despite having suitable specs.

I see, thanks for the reply, so it's normal to have a low fps count, with mat_queue _mode 2 getting at 70-80 fps is fine right?

Shouldn't 70-80 FPS be more than enough for anyone? :) But as i wrote in my previous post - you should be able to get more out of your system. What i forgot to mention is that i have a similar config to yours - I7-2630QM, GT555M - so maybe the game uses the intel cpu for you or sth, since my framerates are noticably higher (without 3d it is always above 100 without mat_queue_mode trick)
