    Hi guys,

my M1330 just fell on the floor, landed on it's corner and the silver-plastics cracked. I have the LED-version. It's working okay when open, but as you understand it's not that smooth opening or closing the lid. So I need to get it fixed. Called Dell and a rep is checking the prices for me (Don't have complete warranty, so I have to pay for it).

Haven't got the price yet, but I'm affraid it could get expensive knowing DELL Finland, whom I'm dealing with. So I found this part on ebay, would this work? Are there any instructions on doing it, or someone here that done it? Are there anything other that I should be aware of doing this.

You may want to double check with Dell whether that part no is for LED or for CCFL.

    Thanks mate, very helpful! Rep.
Saw that one on ebay as well, have to check what a new one would be delivered.

Anyone knows where to look for installation-guide? How seen ones earlier, but can't remember where / find...

Thanks atbnet, exactly what I was looking for!

Now I received the offer from Dell, and they offered the part RW485, which is only the front bezel. If I'm looking at this correctly, the breakage is on the back-side, meaning I need part GX172. So according to atbnet's documentation, the Bezel is only in front, while the cover is the backside.

Am I right on this one? Does this also mean that I could change to another colour of lid? Alpine White could be cool for the coming winter=)

I am probably ten days too late, but I want to confirm for you that you are right: the part you need is GX172 (which I believe provides most of the structural integrity, whereas the front-side bezel is a flimsy piece piece of plastic utterly incapable of holding up the LED by itself). I also want to confirm that you can indeed pick a different color. I had the same black one you did, and chose to get a red one for my replacement (XK075).

This exact situation happened to me not too long ago...twice! It fell once back in July and only right right hinge broke, which I fixed up with some very strong tape. Then just this month, it fell again and the left hinge cracked. I bit the bullet and ordered the parts off ebay (~$20USD including shipping) and used the exact link that atbnet posted to great success.

Please fill us in on the results of your self-repair!

You can get the lids pretty cheap on eBay. All of the colors, both for CCFL and LED. Some are used, some are new but I've purchased a couple new ones for around $25 USD. Changing them is pretty easy, especially if you use the Repair Manual as a guide.
