Hey guys, the speakers are amazing, but... on skype they do crack quite a bit especially when talking to woman, and i do that a lot lol....

no seriously... is that because of the low quality sound? can i do anything about that?

If it only happens with SKYPE try install a new or older build of skype.
Try to update your audio drivers or use an earlier build driver for your unit.
I had issues with skype (M1330 XPS) then I installed the drivers from the SXPS 1645 and been working great ever since.
What problem do you have is it distorted out going audio from you mic?
Any how try to disable microphone enhancements in the Sound> recording>Microphone Array>properties
If you still have problem also try disabling enhancements within the Play back devices..

OK test you audio from within skype now, but disable all audio enhancements in both play and record in the Sound properties and save then test skype and report back here..
PS. have you uninstalled skype and clean registry and installed skype to see if the problem is still there?

It seems the whole notebook is really loud. Dont u think a bit too loud ?

This whoel power and these small speakers? Also, the IDT SRS Surround thing, if i disabled that. Speakers dont crack as buzz as much anymore.

Shoudl u have IDT SRS Surroudn soudn eabled at all?

It's hard to say as I have not used those laptops. As I understand this only happens within Skype?
Try to see if Google brings up anything on this matter or look else where within the forum here.
Might well be conflict of codecs or drivers/screening etc.

Found this, check it, do you have problems with this?
YouTube - Skype Incoming Call Sound

I had a lot people complaining about this, not sure if the german tarnslation for "scheppern" and "dröhnen" is correctly translated into: clanking / clanging or buzzing?

Especially Skype is effected on this issue. Can I set up skype in a way I can hold a normal conversation?

Also, when having IDT SRS Surroudn enabled its even worse!!!

what do u think its causing it, the subwoofer or the speakers itself?

yes, well i heared there are some issues, still even with bluerays my right speaker cracks a bit, not the left. i let dell exchange it anyway.

earphones work.... as well as external speakers or tft screens with speakers.

    Dear fellow sufferers,
dell doesnt provide any solution to this issue for more than one year. the so called "crackling" sound is produced by subwoofer bouncing against the chassis at certain frequencies (especially voices). the solution would be, to completely cover the subwoofer with thin rubber insulation pads, the way it is done in other notebooks(asus, acer...).

I have one 1640 and a Studio 1555 and one Studio 1558 and all of them have the same design failure.

there is nothing wrong with subwoofer per se, because one time i tried to hold the subwoofer in my hand, then powerd up the notbook, played skype sounds and the problem was gone!!! its kust the poor design, which causes the whole chassis to produce that nasty rattling sound!

as i said, the solution would be to put some sort of heat resistant soft rubber pads on subwoofer to make sure that the sound waves cant pass over to the chassis, or cd drive or card reader... or whatever rattles...

we can only hope that the future xps and studio models will have fixed that issue. even cheapass acer laptops have a perfectly insulated subwoofer...

    so long, ma'a ssalama

oh ok, well i wanna get it replaced. there shouldnt be a difference betwen left and right, or am i wrong? or is the subwoofer causing the right speaker to do that? i get it replaced anyway.

anyone tried to put rubber around the subwoofer?
