I've just done a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Studio XPS 1640 but as is widely known there is certain software which isn't available in 'Dell Support Downloads' or 'My Dell Downloads'.

I find it incredible that you can pay Dell for software (X-Fi) and they don't provide customers with the install files. I've still got the original HD and the recovery partition is next to useless as it's just a pre-configured Vista install, no individual setup files. Trying to rip the files from the Program Files directory isn't feasible as there are files all over the place which would require manual registration.

The closest I've found to the Webcam software is this:

Creative Labs Webcam Manager Utility A04

But it's a really old version and doesn't work with the camera in the 1640.

I've spoken to tech support and they directed me to an X-Fi software update which is useless unless you have the original software installed. I've asked for the install CDs to be sent to me but I'm not holding much hope. Why the hell doesn't Dell just provide the programs for download in the support section?

    So frustrating.

I have about the same problem, but with the X-Fi MB.
It doesn't work eigher in Windows Vista/7 32-bit or 64 bit.
I need to use 64-bit OS but I can't have X-Fi MB or AudigyHD.
Creative and Dell sucks on the support section.

I called up Dell support and within 4 days received all my DVD's including PowerDVD, Roxio, Webcam Manager, Facial Recognition, Creative X-FI MB, and Dell utilities.

Well then I have to ask, why on earth do they not include them in the first place!

If it doesn't work in Windows Vista/7 32-bit or 64 bit then what does it work in?!

Well, it works in Windows Vista 32 bit, but I don't have any options like EAX, Crystalizer, EQ, CMSS-3D and so on... :( In 64-bit version it says that I don't have any drivers installed, although they are.
By the way, I have a XPS M1730 with SigmaTel 9288 sound card.
Tried X-Fi MB on my another notebook, Inspiron 1526 with SigmaTel 9205 sound card and I got the same errors.

Those CD's will not include the bits we need.

They'll just be the same as what came with the laptop i.e. useless.

Well, last time I used the link, I was sent all of the media discs... including the Creative one. Then again, that was a year ago.

Now you mentioned in your first post that you asked the rep to send it to you... what was the rep's response? If no, did you ask for a manager/supervisor? If not, you need to do that. Bottom line, follow the chain up and you will receive positive results. This isn't a major item - its a CD... they will have no issue with sending it out.

Even if you get the XFI MB disc, it will not work. I got mine yesterday, and it does not detect the sound card as supported...

I am fighting this battle too. I either want to be able to use my software, or get my money back. If I figure it out I will post here, can you please do the same?

I think I can tell you how to get the software functional after your CD comes in...

    1. Install the XFI MB software and activate it.
    2. Reinstall the audio drivers
    3. Remove the IDT and ATI audio devices from device manager
    4. Scan for hardware changes and let them reinstall themselves
    5. Reinstall the XFI MB software WITHOUT removing it first
    6. Reboot
    7. ???

I am having the same problem with Windows 7. I did a fresh install of Windows 7, and installed the Xfi Software, but it tells me there is no device supported.... I will try doing what daijaziaziaizaizi said, but if memory serves me correctly, I already did that. Does it have anything to do with 64bit?
