Just got this baby. Thought I was on the right track after getting a 14800 in 3Dmark 06 (with x9000 overclocked to 3.4GHZ). But then Crysis killed it. After tweaking away I get 10-30FPS on 1900:1200 with settings on High - which is unfurtunatley unplayable. Not quite what I expected when I decided to shell out £2000+. Any ideas on how to improve the situation will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
System: XPS M1730, x9000 OC to 3.4GHX, 8800GLX in SLI, SS Hard drive
Software: Windows vista 32, Nvidia 175.32 driver (latest), Crysis patch 1.2
Settings: Force alternate frame rate rendering 2

Dude, are you playing on DX10? That resolution on DX10 is pretty much unplayable, but on DX9 it's playable.
-
****, you have hit a wall there, 2 8800 GTX???!!! thats a non-plus-ultra for a lappy, who knows maybe its just the Game that makes any computer look miserable, as ive seen in many threads, but it also could be your drivers and current directx version, maybe the gfx cards are downclocked?? dont really know, but i think the xps m1730 has one fan per each gfx card, so i would think its a charm to overclock...

Desktop computers have problem playing at a smooth fps at that res. bump down the res and it should be fine.

Go to that website to download Nvidia Ntune. It allows you to overclock your graphics cards and monitor your hardware. It is great.
I also recommend that you go to Dell's website to download the latest drivers and run Windows update. Dell's driver download website is very nice and simple.
Also, make sure you have the latest Crysis patch.
And......Make sure that your battery is set to high performance. -
You probably either need to bump a few settings to medium or bump the resolution... fortunately Crysis and the new Stalker game are probably the only games you will have to do that on at the moment....

Yep, you are right. I got the names confused since they are quite similar, basically the same thing, different name. Thanks for the correction.

I wouldn't be overclocking those Nvidia GPU's if I were you. Nvidia is having a big problem w/them failing at their stock speeds, never mind ocing them.

Thanks, I will try dx9, too scared to OC the GPUs, might void my warrenty. V disappointed, see these reviews below, they indicate that it should be possible to get ~30 FPS with my system at 1900:1200 on high, but perhaps they represent averages rather than consistent fps rates.

i had the same problem, turning off SLI helped for me, but still not as good as the original crysis, seems like a driver problem, i'm just going to wait until nvidia comes out with new drivers or EA comes out with a patch.

You can try following my SLi guide if you upgrade your drivers.

Download Nhancer and then I have a tweak for you to solve your problems. I run Crysis with my config at an average of 40 fps in the benchmark test. Check out my youtube vids, Magnus72 is my username on youtube too.
Or just search for Crysis XPS M1730 1920x1200 and you will find four vids, two of original Crysis and two for the new Warhead. Both tweaked by me and see how it runs. -
Post a message in the 1730 owners lounge and hit up Magnus. He's a Crysis fan and has it running really smooth. Also, forget that post about using Dell's 8800M driver... pfft - not worth anything. Talk to magnus and eleron.
LOL @ Magnus - I just posted this and here you were already replying... lol -
Ha ha yeah things like that can happen BatBoy, I have done that before replied then to just see someone else was 1 sec faster to reply

mangus... you've been posting helpful stuff, but no actual fixes or setting instructions!!! I would appreciate it if you posted your own new thread about the best way to run Crysis on the M1730 in SLI. I'm sure people looking up this information via Google Search as well as forum members would really appreciate it, and I think it deserves its own thread because most of us can't figure it out!
Crysis is killing my M1730
