Upek changed the way they do things so we can't easily upgrade our drivers. This guide tailors to 64-bit users, but 32-bit users can use the second half of the guide as you guys should be able to get drivers directly from Dell.
First, you need to download and install the full upek software suite (it includes the drivers)
32-bit users, get this directly from Dell.
64-bit users, get this from here: http://www.powernotebooks.com/support/P12-15/PSQL582Build4414.zip
64-bit users, this is not Dell or Upek brand but will do the job to get the drivers.
Next:
Use windows explorer (firefox and others seem not to work) and go to this site: http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/psql_winqual/psql_upgrade.asp
You should now be able to see an upgrade link. This was not the case without the drivers or using firefox for me.
Uninstall the old version as this is a full install and may cause conflicts.
Download and install the latest.
Last:
Get any applicable plugins:

Hi, thanks for the extra explanation. I just want clarity on what you are saying. The link directly from Upek is the latest version of the software. However, you have to install an earlier version of the software (the first link) in order for the second link to work? When I tried to install the latest version (your second, Upek, link) on my laptop, it would not install without uninstalling the (earlier) version that I had on the laptop. When I tried to download from the Upek link on my desktop (which has no version of the software or drivers on it), it was fine as long as I tried to open the page from IE, not firefox. Sorry if I am muddling this more, just wanted to fully understand what you are saying
. Much thanks for all your work, and thanks, too, to all of your contributors.

Yes, you do have to have the older version installed for the Upek site to give you the upgrade link for the latest and it seems to have issues with firefox.

I've posted a site which has the update, not on UPEK, on another thread.
The new software is easily worth the hassle to upgrade... it works GREAT! Previously, I'd get "Try Again" probably 3 or 4 out of every five attempts. Now, in over 15 tries, I haven't gotten ONE error... it's worked every time!
Also has added some nice features, but the improvement in the software's ability to read fingerprints alone makes this a must have!
Cheers... -
does this make it so on the log in screen there is your normal user account picture AND the fingerprint reader logo? for some reason that is very annoying to me... i want JUST my user account picture... is there anyway to get rid of that?

It works great
and it even has a cool feature where you can encrypt certain folders
LOL
For those of you who don't want your wife or girlfriend to find THAT folder -
Hi, Trebruin, I think I might have found an answer to my conumdrum (our conundrum?). I could not install the second link with the first link installed and the second link installed when I uninstalled the first link. I installed by going into the install folder, I did not use autorun. Is that how you installed?
I agree, by the way, that Upek's software suite is much better than Dell's version; another perk for going 64 bit! -

Hi, Trebuin. I was wondering how you pulled up the Upek link in your fist post? I have tried going to the Upek site but cannot find the page. All I can find is a page to pay for the software. Is there some magic to finding this link,
? Much thanks for all your help.
