I was initially going to say "it's called a D-Dock because it only works with Latitude D-Series laptops", but the M1710 shares a chassis with the M6300 which is most definitely D-Dock compatible. A look at the 1710 owner's manual verifies that there should be a D-Dock connector on the bottom of the machine.

So in short, it should work.

Yes the 1710 does have a connector underneath and the location for the locks, thank you for your reply, one other thing may be the charge rate, the XPS is quite high, this may not be a problem though.

What exactly do you mean by "charge rate"? The rate at the which the battery charges is usually dependent on your power adapter, not any sort of docking peripheral. If you're talking about the overall power draw, as long as you use the proper power adapter (aka the one that came with the M1710) with the dock, it should not be a problem either.

If you don't already have one, I have a spare taking up room that needs a good home. Bought it on the chance I could get it to work with my Inspiron, but it's too much of a hassle (incompatible BIOS).

    Sticking with the standard dock.

Hope I'm not violating forum rules. I hadn't planned on ever selling it....

I have a D/Dock at home and I can't seem to get it to work with my 1710. The power input to that dock is the 3-pronged cord that would go into the 1710 AC adaptor and not the single male plug that goes intot he 1710 itself. Could it be that I have the wrong D/Dock? Not sure how many there are.

If any of you still have extras that DO work with the 1710, please send me a private message as I might take one off your hands. Thanks.
