DELL Giving me a full refund on XPS M1730

As the title suggests DELL have now offered me a FULL refund for my XPS M1730

Originally they called yesterday and offered me a replacement for an M17X but they would only give me 85% of the original ourchase price of the XPS.

I configured the M17X on the DELL website and also called the Sales department to clarify I could have Bu Ray reader and Dual ATI's added because these options are not on the web configurator. I was told I could add these options.

This morning a tech support representative called and we went through the configuration. He could not get the price to match what I had been quoted from the Sales department. He then went off to check with a colleague then came back and said unfortunately a Blu Ray Drive and Dual ATI's was not available in the UK. When I complained that the XPS I have does have Blu Ray and Dual GPU's so effectively you are not exchanging like for like. He agreed so has subsequently offered me a complete and full refund.

So, here's the issue. I now have £2,269 to spend on a new laptop but I cannot have dual video crads or a blu ray drive because DELL UK don't offer them apparently.

What do you guys think I should do? Go for 8GB RAM, Single ATI Radeon Card and DVD RW or go for a different configuration completely or should I take the refund and shop elsewhere? are there any other machines on the market worth looking at?

I bet you could put together a nice alienware m15x or m17x with that budget, eventhough two gpu's are not available here (belgium) atm, it shouldn't take to long before they release crosfie/sli dual cards with the new ati hd 5*series or nvidia's 300 series.

If you absolutely cant wait, may I suggest Kobalt computers? (type in google, and click on the first link). Its a UK company, and they seem to offer decent waranty. No dueal gpu's though on their 15-17 inch models. They also still sell the old gpu's (like the nvidia gtx280m) but should release new models in march. Those laptops are not as nicely designed as dell/alienware but offer a lot of power for a decent amount of money.

The asus g73jh is also a nice looking laptop (with 1gpu), but we are all still waiting to see how it handles heat.

How old was your XPS M1730? I'm in a pardiciment where they didn't have a like-for-like system to offer so they gave me a XPS 1645- and it performs worse and lacks several features on my E1705, such as smaller lower resolution screen, etc. They are telling me they're not going to fix it, so since they're not honoring the "equal to or better" policy does that make one eligible for a refund? The only way they could give me something to really meet my needs is a Precision M6500 and they won't do it. I'd settle for a full refund and discount towards a new system.

Hi guys well im in the same boat now as you guys. Ive just been told today that the replacement part XM888 8800mgtx SLI is now on back order and a minium of 2-3 weeks. This is worldwide apparently. Ive sais its ridiculous and there going to get customer relations give me a call tomorrow.Ive argued for a replacement system but its down to them to sort it apprently. Ill keep you all posted.
