I am just curious when you got your XPS laptop from the Dell outlet how old was the build date on it from when you got it.
I assume it should be 3-4 months and not much more.
I just saw the XPS m1330 I ordred and it shows Media direct 3.3 installed which is alarming as my understanding is 3.5 was introduced in early 2008 so perhaps this laptop was built over a year ago.
I will know in a few days when I get it.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I don't think you can determine the age of a refurb machine by the age of the software pre-installed. I'm fairly certain Dell would re-image all their refurb machines, so it'll be a matter of an old installation image, rather than a matter of an old laptop.
I don't think there's an accurate way to tell how old an Outlet machine actually is. The only part of a laptop I can think of that's permanently timestamped is the memory, and the memory manufacturing date can be months before that of the laptop.
Others may know a trick that I don't, though. -
I looked at another XPS and it is coming with Media Direct 3.5 instead of 3.3 like the one I ordered. I saw it in the detail of the system.

mine was 6 months old and is COOOOOOOOOOL fast and no prob.

To be "concerned" about your system because it included a 3.3 version instead of 3.5 is silly. The truth of the matter is that stuff isn't instantly updated at Dell, just look at drivers and such.
