Yes you just need the glasses and no IR device as it is included in the notebook.

Is anybody playing in 3D ? Is it fun ? Or does it get annoying after a while ?

Had a brief look at Tron Legacy 3d bluray with the glasses before my XPS 17 died... picture was excellent-just like watching it in 3d in the cinema (JBL sound is lovely too)..looking forward to the new one arriving and testing Star Wars The Old Republic...!

It is (as everything) a matter of taste, but I find playing in 3D incredibly entertaining.

Some games, of course, aren't 100% compatible; others are just too demanding to play them in 3D without turning down the graphics and resolution.

So, you can play a lot of older games in beautiful Full HD 3D, and a lot of new games in 3D, but with loss of visual quality.

Still, I find it amazing, and if your laptop can do it, why not use it? It's a pitty, though, that games that will come out in 1 or 2 years will most likely be way too demanding for a decent 3D experience...
