I noticed some kind of hissing noise from my XPS M1530. Firstly, I thought it was coming from my Hard Drive but it seems it's my processor that produces that noise.

What's wrong ? Did this ever happen to any of you ?

    Thanks in advance

It is a known issue with Core Duo / Core 2 Duo processors unfortunately.

Yes, indeed I've read some things about it on the Internet.
Should I be worried and ask for a replacement ?

hissing noise eh? are you referring to some type of crackling/loading/type thingy lol coming from the upper left corner of your keyboard area?

cause' I have that too, but it's really only noticeable when it's really quiet and i'm loading a bunch of stuff

It's the processor entering different state that's causing the noise.

I've read it somewhere that you can turn off a couple CPU state through RMClock to make it go away. Unfortunately the details has slipped through my head.

Also, this seems to be a problem for pre-Penryn chips. I haven't heard anything like this for those 45nm monsters - Well, except you, that is. :)

I noticed this too. It's that crackling noise that you hear constantly near the "XPS | M1530" sign (upper left side of the keyboard). What the hecK right?

It's a high-pitched squealing noise apparently coming from the upper right side of my computer, not the left one.

EDIT : In fact, it seems I can hear that noise from the left side as well as I can hear it from the right one.

My XPS makes a random squealing noise, it's not constant just random
