    Dear All,

    I received my DELL XPS M1530 yesterday. I was very much excited by the design & style of the laptop. My excitement shattered with a hour when I noticed the arm-rest was getting warm. Since I was not comfortable with the heat on the arm-rest I called DELL support. The first technical support officer said it is not normal for the arm-rest to get warm, I should get it replaced. The second technical support officer said, since the arm-rest is made of alloy, the arm-rest getting warm is normal and it is by design

    Now I don't know what to do. Has anybody experienced this problem. Please help me understand.

    Regards
    Balaji

    Have you ever owned a laptop?

    They get warm, obviously if its too hot and uncomfortable you're going to have to change it, but yeah man, welcome to laptops, they get hot, try lifting the back so it gets airflow

    Hey,

    I have owned DELL Latitude before and now own a HP as well. But I haven't observed a laptop getting warm on the arm-rest(i.e below the keyboard where your rest your arms).

    Regards

    It depends on the design of the laptop, my Inspiron 1520 stays pretty cool partly because of the plastic but mostly because it's thick. The M1530, as you probably have noticed, thins out towards the front so there's less room to move the heat so the only way for the heat to dissipate is up. It takes a couple days to get used to but if you believe that there's a problem, Dell will honor an exchange.

    Mine get warm when I turn it on. And right where the screen meets the hinge, where the backlight bulb is, the frame is warm also. My bed is warmer.

    The hard drive is right below that arm rest, you're feeling the heat from that, it is normal and there is nothing you can really do about. A cooling pad thing might help with the warmth, but no actual fix within the computer aside from downgrading the HDD to something that might now get as warm.

    Basically its a pad that you plug into a USB port and put underneath your laptop and it blows air onto the bottom of the computer, most have between 1 and 3 fans. Some also are built so they have a tilt to them, getting the computer off the desk a bit to allow airflow and make it more comfortable to type on. If you get a good one it can work miracles for your laptop temps.

    wont get warm ;) the cooling is really nice done in the xps it actually cools very very good the cpu and gpu stay at a very good temp and way lower then other notebooks i know. Also i notice the left palm only gets warm when you rest your hand on it.... its not warm at all when you just leave it running...

    Hi, I just received mhy Dell XPS M1530 and I am getting the same problem as Balaji. The part below the keyboard gets hot , crap, very uncomfortable when you are more than just a few minutes typing docs.

    Balaji, did you fix this problem, with the cooler or by getting it replaced ?

    let me know

    thanks
