I am not too computer savy but learning each day as I read these forums. I can't decide which one to get. Price doesn't matter as I have saved up for this.

    Please HELP!

Oh the 17" has RGB LED. Is that worth it?

I would go for an XPS, the XPS line gives you more performance that the Studio line, and the Studio line is like a cheap XPS, it will not give you the same peformance as the XPS, but it will work great if you will not use it for gaming or that kind of stuff.

actually performance wise the new studios are better than the actual XPS's since they havent yet been updated.

Depends on which one he's talking about.
studio 15 - comparable to xps 1330 graphics wise
studio 17 - slightly better than xps 1530 graphics wise.

Personally I wouldn't buy either, I'd wait till the new studio xps hybrid's come out later this month before I'd make any decision.

You really think there will be new Studio XPS hybrids? I'll wait then. I just don't like the graphics card for the XPS. I was told that the 8600 is pretty old.

    Firstly link to thread

As regards the graphics card it depends on how much you're going to spend. Most new laptops for around the same money have a "newer" 9600m gt, but its exactly the same card, just they shrunk the die size.

Nb Dell's new laptops are going to be the same mid to low range ones as these. I seriously doubt that there will be anything more powerfull than the 8600 gt available (dell seems to have given up the gaming idea)

Go for the Dell XPS m1730. You can get it for a good price on EBAY if a REFURBISHED SYSTEM isnt a problem.

And if carrying a lead brick isn't a problem either.
