Hi all,
I replaced my killer wireless card with a DW1830.
Unfortunately since this morning I get very poor speeds in windows. (Max 6Mbps instead of 180Mbps on 5ghz)) When I boot into Ubuntu I get full speed all the time.
I checked the driver version, and it’s the latest (1.566.0.0) and it was never updated. It was automatically installed by windows.
Also tried the driver from Dell (which is the same, but gave it a try anyway), but this didn’t change anything.
Anyone know what the problem could
Thank you,
J-J

Wild guess, you have changed a 2x2 card to a 3x3 without swapping the antenna array to 3x3?
Is the 3rd disconnected or did you add your own 3rd antenna and if so where? -
I added a 3rd antenna and it’s connected. I put it in the antenna cover.
EDIT:
What do you mean by “ without swapping the antenna array to 3x3”? Do I have to change a setting in windows?Last edited: Nov 9, 2017 -
What troubleshooting have you done besides driver? When you have slow speeds what network is it connected, does it drop off the 5ghz to the 2.4? Do you have different SSIDs for the two? I cant remember the full settings for that card, but is there a roaming aggressiveness or preferred band settings? If so, what are they? -
Don’t know what you mean by “ Is there a roaming aggressiveness or preferred band settings”...
This is my second XPS, I had a replacement. On my previous one I didn’t have this issue... -
Anyway since the speeds drop on both networks, these likely don't have anything to do with the issues. Still, you should check all the settings just to see if anything stands out. Possibly a power saving setting that could be affecting performance.
It occurring on both networks also limits the possible solutions I have. Generally would indicate a problem external to the card but you said it works fine on other OS. I would try the following:
- Delete all wireless networks in the Windows 10 settings menu and registry
- Uninstall the card completely (click delete device software) then install the Dell driver again. Note you'll need to have downloaded this before the uninstall as you wont have internet
- Connect to and save only one network (to rule out drop in speed due to network switching)
- If the above does not lead to improvement, I would double check that all antenna cables are securely attached (they look fine in picture but couldn't hurt)

Nominally 1.7Ghz but not sure if you can get two spare 160GHz bands.
