I'm getting an error at startup when the Dell Datasafe Backup program starts to load.
RMCPlg.exe failed to initialize
Anybody got a good fix for this? Anybody know where I can get my hands on a copy of this software to re-install?
I already tried Dell's Tech support. The Indian fella (bless his heart) told me the registry setting for the local software was corrupt, jumped right in and deleted the Datasafe Local Backup, and then pointed me to the online site and had me download the online client, which I already had on my system and was functioning perfectly. He then tells me that it is a "one-time only install from the factory, and the softwre isn't available anywhere. He suggests a system restore to get the software back. One Windows restore point later, software was back, but still had the error. Then he says he has to get off the phone and will call me back in 2 hours. No call back. ( I did find out later that he tried to call me back at work 4 hours later, but I had already been home for 2 hours.)
Ok....now for Dell restore to factory settings. Install got corrupted somehow. Couldn't find my second hard drive, wireless would not work, and USB wouldn't detect and load drivers for a flash drive. Dell factory restore #2 - Goes well, system up and running just peachy, except that the Datasafe still errors out when launching - either from the Reg key, or when launching manually from start menu.
I'm another victim of Dell's drive-by tech support.![]()

dr_korb,
Re: RMCPlg.exe errors on Dell Vista computers
If you're getting the RCMPlg.exe errors, most likely they're due to Dell's buggy Dell Datasafe Backup software. My friends brand new Dell Inspiron 530, with Vista installed, was getting these pop-ups frequently.
I had him uninstall all (3) components of the Dell Datasafe Backup software, and the problem was solved. Of course, he never intended on running the above mentioned software anyway, and just wanted the pop-ups to go away.
If you're still having the problem, and WANT to run the software, then keep beating down Dell's door, and call their support staff. If they don't have a solution at the moment, see if there's a SERVICE (or two) for the Dell Datasafe software and temporarily DISABLE the service(s) until Dell comes up with a solution.
I would imagine there's a service, so disable it/them if any exist.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help,
