    Defective GPU only affect those in US?

    Hi all, I'm from Singapore and this is my first post in this forum. =]

    I own a m1330 with an 8400M GS. I've heard a alot about the defective GPU with all the vertical lines and crashed and whatnot. I've had my fair share of BSOD too.

    I've also heard that this problem only affect those laptops shipped to the states, and I'm from Singapore, so am I spared from this nightmare?

    Any users from other countries had this problem before?

    well, i wouldn't be able to clarify on this 100% but im willing to bet that the nvidia chips all over the world are crapped. i don't think it is limited to the
    US.

    m1530 with 8600m gt users from Australia.

    No "Hardware" related problems whatsoever

    I've heard similar things, although it would seem strange that the problem was only limited to the USA. Who knows....

    It depends on who you speak to. Some people have had no issues, some people have had lots. Scary thing is, I was speaking to some guy that was claiming the new 9XXXGT's were also starting to overheat... so it makes you wonder what is safe.

    Sigh.

    My GPU is running at 93C full load, but I'm a bit reluctant to try the copper mod, since its still under warranty. Got it in August 08.

    Maybe a cooler will help?

    I bought mine in Japan through dell.co.jp (made in China). Replaced the motherboard once due to the GPU problem. Most DELL notebooks sold in U.S and rest of the world are manufactured in Asia (China, Malaysia, etc..), therefore I don't think there is a difference.

    All the chips are made in the same TSMC manufacturing plant, to the same specs and put in the same model chassis wherever you purchase your Dell so it's extremely unlikely that the problem would only affect one market.

    I am sure it is a worldwide problem

    (Two GPU failures here on a M1330 purchased and made in China - I think this one comes from the plant in Xiamen and the US machines probably from Taiwan... but I very much doubt it makes a difference)

    Apple had the problem worldwide so I assume that Dell does too.
