i received new replacement for the damages done by dell service rep, dell have changed my old invoice date to 19/09 and they issued me new order, also i received my new M1530. im happy for that. now i have fresh a year complete care, when i asked them about my old invoice date they said it lapsed, since they have sent me new laptop.

right now my system is fine n working great, but have problem with my TEAC DVD writer, it makes lot of noise and noise is so loud that i can hear when im reading any DVD/CD. the noise is so loud as i live in first floor, i can hear the noise standing on ground floor, :p

i was busy with my work on Friday n sat, dell csr called me on the second day when i received my laptop, asked me whether i had any problems, i said everything is fine except that DVD writer is making lot of noise, he told me to call up tech support and inform them regarding the problem.

yesterday i called tech support and told my DVD writer makes noise, he tried to trouble shoot it from bios and in safe mode, finally after hearing that loud noise he said its defective and needs to be replaced.

today they are sending me a service rep again to my house to replace the DVD writer. he will be here by afternoon.

i have explained clearly to the tech support what exactly happened last time when service rep visited my house to fix sth and messed up my lappy.

they said this time they are sending me an experienced personnel with quality tools. so i will be staying home today to see how it goes.

i was thinking if someone post how to replace the DVD writer on my own? can i do it on my own, or let the service rep to do it?

can anyone post the instructions to replace the dvd writer?

haha coz im worried if sumthing the service rep go wrong. also dell told that they have no service rep from dell, all they do is to hire service rep from other companies like wipro. for this im worried

what can i do, can i let him to replace? i think i can replace. if have instructions.

Since I've disassembled the M1710 and the M1730 on several occasions, yes - I could do it.

If you have not poked around the insides of your lappie, you could give it a go - just know that if you cause any damage then they wont cover it. Most likely the reason why they are sending out a tech is due to the drive not being a customer replaceable part.

If you do try this, remember to:

    1. Be patient and go slow.
    2. Have plenty of room to work (not on the carpet, use a table).
    3. Review all instructions and print them out if you cant access the web from another machine for reference.

I would just let the tech do it. ;)

Just place a bath towel down on the table surface if the tech does not have a static mat. A table surface is always better than taking a laptop apart on a bed.

Is this a slot loading drive? My Optical disk drive also makes a lot of noise. Its not as loud as you mentioned, but it gets annoying :(
