Just received the M1530 on Tuesday, and the plastic above the air vents covering the LED screen is protruded / bent (see attached photo). Is this common?

    No, that's a defect.

Although I do not own an M1530, but I can assure you that is a defective product. You can try to push on it and see if it snaps into the screen. If it doesn't, contact Dell to get it warranted.

Dude call dell support ASAP. You are in your first 21 days so they will fix the problem or replace your PC, whichever you choose.

I definitely wouldn't let that fly. I know it's hard to start the whole process of waiting on your dream PC all over again, but don't settle for less when you paid for a perfect system.

I have that on my M1330 but to a lesser degree. I thought it was just normal. But I really would rather not have that same tech guy come out and carelessly piece together the computer again for the third time. I had to reopen and reroute all wires for about an hour every time he left. A system replacement would be awesome but I am afraid they would send me my old system spec because the replacement I have now is much better spec than my old one which had problems. Do they only give same configuration or better than the current system or is that based off of the system spec you originally purchased?

Tried pushing it in a few times but it comes back out. I think it's the heat from the air vents that's causing this deformation. Already contacted Dell but have to wait for reply.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Mine does that in the same spot but not as bad. It probably took me 2 weeks to notice it and I can only see it if I look down from the top of the screen. I let it slide and I'm really picky. In your case I'd probably call.

I've seen it in a few m1330 pics around the web as well.

Called Dell yesterday and customer care forwarded me to tech support, then back to customer care, and got transferred to another department, then another... finally the line was dropped during a transfer. Called back, started the whole process again and got two different case numbers (I think one guy wanted to override the tech support's decision to replace the laptop). Then got to another customer care rep and he said he'll call back today. It's near the end of day and nobody called.

That is exactly what happened to me for about 2 hours straight over the phone the first day I got the laptop and then for another hour or so the next day. Really made me mad but eventually things were fixed and I even got an upgrade.
