    Hello everyone!
I have a top-of-the-line (at the time in 2008) 1530 with the Blu-Ray player. I upgraded to Windows 7. About a month ago, my Blu-Ray player recongnized regular DVDs but not the blu-ray discs.

I spent 5.5 hours with Dell support (India, of course..I honestly believe that Dell has no american employess anymore...seriously) trying to rectify the problem. And...my Dell Dock stopped installing. They even uninstalled and reloaded the Dell Dock...nope.

Dell's "India" solution is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7.

There has got to be a better way than that.

Any suggestion, anyone? I live in Jupiter, Florida and I am even willing to pay an expert to come in and fix it...if it is a true expert and not just a "comuputer geek".

Thanks so much for reading this...
    Ralph

    Hey Ralph,

If you haven't done so yet, I would try updating your PowerDVD. Is that what you're using to play Blu-Ray movies?

You can do it by looking under settings (I believe?) It'll take you to the website from there. It's an easy process. I was having some issues with my Blu-rays (they would freeze sometimes)when I got the laptop in December, and the update fixed it.

No...I am using Dell Media Direct to play my Blu-Ray movies. When talking to the India people, they say this is the best on a Dell 1530. Is there a better player that I can maybe purchase? I have never heard of the PowerDVD.

PowerDVD is what came with my XPS 1645. They make a special branded version for Dell, but they also have commercial versions available for purchase:

They probably have a trial version you can download to see if it solves your problem.

My laptop came with Windows 7, so maybe Dell Media Direct is not the best player for Windows 7, that's why they are now shipping PowerDVD with newer machines?

This is off topic, but I'm curious - how much was a Dell laptop with Blu-Ray in 2008? :) Was it well over $4K? Ignore the question, if you think this it too rude to ask.

I almost bought a Falcon laptop around 2007-2008, but even they didn't have Blu-Ray included back then. I think they said they could do a special order, but it would have been over $6K, so I passed.

I didn't know Dell was actually offering it until I came across 1645 at the end of 2009.

    I paid a little under $1500 for my M1530 with a 1900X1200 screen and blu-ray burner back in 2008.

About a week after I purchased it I installed PowerDvD 8 Ultra because Media Direct was having playback issues with most of newer released blu-ray discs. So far it's worked great, I even upgraded to 9 Ultra here recently.

The only issue that I have ever had thus far has been with the blu-ray version of the movie 2012. The menu won't pull up, so I cannot play the movie with PowerDVD 9 Ultra. Cyberlink has been made aware of the issue and should be releasing a patch here soon. At least that's what I've been told.
