When i started Fallout 3 and Crysis with the Hybrid SLI('Boost Perofrmance') turned on, both suggested low detail. Both games played very choppy(15 fps).

Then when i switched to the 9400m alone, both games recommended medium settings and ran fine (25+ FPS).

This has happened with both the 176 and 179 drivers.

When i turn on the "boost performance" these two games recognize the hardware as a 9200GS rather than a 9200 GS+9400.

Does anyone else have this issue?

How did you switch to the 9400m alone?

That's the "Power Save" mode. Should do it unplugging the adapter, or changing power plan to "Power Saver" in Vista.

It pops a display on screen when it does it...

Also if you use the old drivers, then you can set up a custom vista power plan ,that allows you to maximize things like processor utilization, but set the GPU to 9400m only.
But this can be done only with the 176 drivers, the 179 took that option away from me (which is why ia m sticking with 176)

Anyone have an answer to my original query :)?

Have you tried the current 178.86 drivers from Dell?

As far as being able to change the power plan, you just have to change a registry setting to get that back.

The hybrid SLI option is determined by a registry entry.

Enter the registry editor and navigate to the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Hybrid

Change the entry HidePowerSetting to a 0.

Restart your computer and viola. You can now alter your power profiles with the Hybrid SLI settings.

Someone else posted this in another thread, and it worked perfect for me.

Got it - I don't know about you guys but in power save mode my gaming stinks. I recently tried 182.46 and the results are outstanding. 178.75 gave me the highest 3dmark06 score of 3548 but gaming performance wise, 182.46 is really doing it for me right now.

Updated drivers, and although tjh011 post helped me get the GPU settings back , still worse performance using Hybrid SLI

Here is an update if anyone cares....I now have windows 7! and the newest drivers! and still in certain games such as fallout 3 and dragon age... Enabling "boost performance" leads to a lower FPS in these games.
Let me know if anyone else has the same problems. :D
