Hi guys, just signed up, been a long time lurker. To start off, im looking into buying a notebook within the price range of under $1800, and found the studio 1747. It had all that i needed, core i7, 1tb harddrive (free upgrade option in canada) 6gb of ram (when you upgrade) but lack luster graphics, the ati mobility 4650. I was looking for a notebook with atleast a 5870 mobility but couldnt find any in the specified price range.

My question is, is it possible to swap out a 4650 with a 5870? on desktops as long as there is adequate power you can, but i think the power consumption might be too much. If that is the case, can any one point me in the right direction for a better notebook?

Im looking for something with a core i7 , decent graphics (ati, nvidia, doesnt matter) and ram as well as hdd can be upgraded so no biggie.

    Thx a bundle guys :D

In a notebook the graphics chip will normally be mounted on the motherboard even when it's a discrete graphics chip; unfortunatly this means it can't be upgraded.
There is a type of graphics chip that can be upraded, called an MXMmodule. But I'm not aware of Dell using it in any of their notebook models:
