For some reason my 9cell battery that came with my XPS 1530 when i bought it last year won't charge anymore. On Vista, it shows 0%, Not Charging. The 6-cell that also came with my system charges and works fine on its own.

Any way I can fix the battery?

edit: in case it matters, this is my system:

    1.66GHz Core 2 Duo
    256MB 8600M GT
    1680x1050 lcd screen
4GB RAM (2x 2GB modules i got off of newegg)

for the past year the 9cell battery's worked fine. it just up and died the other day.

call dell or go online and chat with a tech. when that happened to me i was told to send the system back (which is taking 4ever btw) because my motherboard had overheated. battery was fine its the computer hardware thats the problem.

It's most likely the battery since the six cell charges okay.

If the system/battery is less that a year old, tech support will replace the battery under warranty.

If not, you will have to purchase one to replace it.

i had the exact same problem, my XPS was overheating so i sent it to the depot for the first time, the only thing they did is reseat the heatsink. i get the laptop and its working for a couple of weeks, then suddenly my battery is stuck at 4 % charge, and its saying " not charging not plugged in") although the AC adapter is plugged in, so it looks like the mobo is screwed, gonna send it back in again to replace the mobo, hopefully they do it this time. i also got them to send me a new 9 cell battery after i ed for around an hour on the phone.

About 6 months ago the 9 cell batt' on my 1530 wouldnt hold a charge.

I checked the brick, and the adapter. The brick was good..but the adapter was loose to hold onto the socket.

I contacted Dell, they had me do a bunch of things and I told them I thought the soldering was not good on the inside socket.

Instead, they chose to send a Tech. to my house. The Tech. replaced my Motherboard and gave me a new brick + adapter. Since then, things have been good.

When you touch the batt' indicator on the nice cell..What strength is it giving? I think you will end up contacting Dell, either way.
