Does anyone know if I can use the Dell 90 watt AC power adapter that came with my D-series docking station with the m1330? I know the m1330 can use can the 65 watt adapter that comes with the D-series laptops, but Dell Tech Support told me that the 90w would not work and that it would damage the computer. It's odd that the D-series laptops can use the 90w AC direct, but the m1330 can't. I'd like to confirm this. Thanks!

Look on the power adapter. If it supplies the same voltage (and same polarity!), it should work. Just because a power supply can output 90W, it doesn't push 90W into the system. The system pulls power from the supply, so will only use as much as it needs.

i agree with vinylpusher..........the lap shud work fine.......to remove ur worry just check on the adapter label whether the output volt is 19.5v and also that the ports match.......then theres no need of worry.......u can push it in without trouble......90w adapter means it can supply a max of 90 w....the system can take any value upto this........( watt=volt*current...........volt is a const @ 19.5v....the system can change the value of current upto 4.61583 watt a/c its needs)

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Dell's 90W power supplies have always been able to work in place of their lower wattage devices. I can use the 90W adapter from my D830 on my five year old 500m; the smaller laptop simply won't draw all of the 90W available.

One thing it will do is charge the battery faster when the system is in use vs the 65 watt adapter.

i'm sure that the laptop will limit the current drawn for charging. It has to be able to - trickle charging needs this.
anyway, why would dell offer only a 65w if 90w could charge faster? They could sell the 90w to business travelers for more money. -
Again, I wanted to point out that Dell Chat Support told me that 65 watt AC was ok with the m1330, but not the 90 watt. My Dell D620 ran both just fine.

Dell Support does not understand electronics. You'll often get better support from forums like these.
Just make sure the output is 19.5 Volts. This is the number that counts. If your voltage is too high then you can potentially break something.
Faster M1330s (like my T9300) are sold with a 90 W adapter anyways. How come the support guy didn't even know this? Maybe they are lying to you in order to make a deal...
Edit: Why on Earth did I reply to this old topic anyways? -
Yes it will work perfectly fine. Heck i used one on my dell x300 before!
Dell 90 watt AC adapter works with m1330?
