I cant get the damn dongle to connect to my router, it says "unidentified network" and I have no network access.

I tried with DHCP and manual, doesnt work. I see no activity in the routers network log.
I tried different cable, reboot and deleting the realtek network card in device manager.

The USB ports on the dongle seems to work though.

The dongle is from fasttech and is this one https://www.fasttech.com/products/5675900

I use a similar adaptor (but USB 3) and very occasionally have had the same problem. My solution was to use the Device Manager to uninstall the "Realtek USB GbE Family Controller" and after reboot everything works as expected. Not sure if your fasttech device has the same chip but it's a very common component so the chances are that it does.

I had the same problem a few days ago (Dell adaptater). I fixed it by assigning an IP address manually and it worked instantly.
