Think the M1730 gets all the glory of the 320GB 7200RPM HD? Think again.
Only recently (as of this morning) Dell has added this option to the M1530 that can be configured even with the cheapest starting price configuration ($999 US)
Speed: 320GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) with Free Fall Sensor [add $300 or $9/month1]
It is 50 bucks more than the 250GB 7200RPM HD. There is no longer the option to get the 320GB 5400RPM anymore so no one needs to bright up the whole plattery density helps RPM, etc. With Dells new option, you can now have the best of both worlds. Whos drooling now? Anyone having second thoughts about their M1530? Anyone thinking about returning their M1530 just to get it with the new HD?
Now the next step is those WSXGA+ LED displays... hopefully.

Good deal. I think they should have just opened that open up to the entire XPS line at once.
The WSXGA+ would be nice too, I think we will see it sooner than later. -
Great!
I can't believe they can pack 320GB into such a small drive... always amazes me seeing the size of laptop drives and the amount of space that they've got. -
Awesome. Wish they would have had that when I ordered...
Or even earlier this week when I called in for an exchange...I might have been able to talk them into giving me one of them, too. -
Good news. I will ask for this one as a compensation for all the trouble I have. Need to replace the HDD anyway.

Not so good news IMO. The STR of these drives in the inner zones hasn't been all that amazing (very strong decay rate) and I'm kind of surprised the 5400rpm drives would disappear as they seem to be the one that combines the best of all words (performance, capacity, price, heat, power).

The drive just came out. Its Seagate Momentus, not Samsung, Seagates are supposed to be better than Samsungs.
Im having this huge debate in my head whether to return and reorder my M1530 with the 25% off discount just so that I can get one preconfigured with 320GB 7200RPM drive. Then again, maybe by the time that happens, a WSXGA+ LED backlit display will be out by then, but hey, it would extend my 21 days so I might get some time to see if the any of refreshes are worth returning my M1530 for... (though I highly doubt they'd come out that early)
They don't sell the 320GB 7200RPM HD yet, and it'll probably be a few months before it shows up on newegg or anywhere for sale indifidually. -
Yeah, I think I'm just gonna wait till the last few days of my return period, then return it and order a new one.
