Dell email advertisements are noting the company is putting out a "Studio XPS" line, to be relased shortly. Finally, it looks like Dell is going to update the M1530 and XPS line shortly. With the announcement, I anticipate around 1 Jan 09 or so. Probably, finally, I would hope updates to the antiquated GPU of the old series and possibly a 13 and 16 inch laptop could be on the way. Keep your eyes open.![]()

BTW...I'm really loving the leather panel on the cover :O! -
Well, maybe this will be when I thank myself for holding off on a brand-new Vaio Z590 -- a spiffy Studio XPS 13 or even the Adamo.
Let's go, Dell. Show your cards. -

Besides, there is nothing wrong with the Macbook keyboard. -
I like the looks of the m1340.
But, I'm in the market for a tablet, notably the Lenovo X200T. -
I could possibly live without the embedded numerical-keypad that was removed during the Late 2007 refresh, but any serious typist needs the above mentioned keys. To use a dual-touch system for these frequently used keys is murder on your arms and carpal tunnel syndrome in the making.
I love Apples products and OS X, but I can't live with these shortcomings. Nor could I live without integrated HSDPA, dragging along a USB dongle or 3g-wifi router sucks.
What our current Dell lacks (Vostro 1500, XPS 1530) is backlit keyboard, a slimmer and lighter design and matte display for higher than 1280x800. I am tempted by the E4200, but the high price makes me hold out for the "Adamo". -
I was talking more about the 'chiclet' design the Macbooks have, no the actual key choices. I had no problem using the chiclet keyboard on my Macbook.

Here is a pic of the XPS Studio:
edit: Updated with new pics to reflect production model
Looks pretty nice. -
I believe that is only an early prototype. New one according to engadget is much different.

Yea, the new ones are actually quite different. Here's the link if you missed it: http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/18/dell-studio-xps-13-leather-wrapped-laptop-revealed-adamo-info-l/

Thanks Shoe, I was far too lazy to get the link. Day after X-mas ya know, stuck at work, playin with my lappy.

Yeah that looks almost exactly like the Studio just with the USB ports in a different spot. The current Studio XPS has the silver hinges.

Wish I knew what specs these will have. Definitely worth waiting for if they use say a 9700GTS or better... but I'm not holding my breath
Wish Dell's forums were still around -
The new XPS 1330 looks nice with the leather trim. There's also going to be a Mac air contender too called the Adamo. Decisions decisions.

Lol, more links:

Just saw it when browsing Engadget just now, it's more info/specs on Adamo, but nothing too special. -
The chassis looks very similar to the current XPS line. My only main gripe is the chiclet keyboard similar to those found on Macs and Sonys. I vehemently dislike typing on those types of keyboards because the keys feel very hallow and wobbly.

This is a good move to integrate the 2 lines with the economy in the state of flux that it is in...
Consumers that couldn't afford the jump into XPS or thought that the Studio was a major step down will now get to enjoy both worlds. This cost effective move will allow Dell to stay competitive in this sluggish market, that can hang around for the next 4-7 quarters.
I'm glad i got my XPS when i did... -
I really don't think it's anything of the sort-just a renaming thing. The XPS models weren't really more than the Studio ones anyway (and they've all seemed pretty overpriced to me for quite some time).
-
Why there is not 1640 pictures? Maybe it look just like 1340.
