I've read the forum on remoing the bloatware and also several articles from 2007 that say Dell was giving the option of not having the addition programs installed on XPS systems. I saw no such option when I ordered so I was curious about this in regards to the studio xps 16.

My questions are how much bloatware is actually still being installed? How hard is it to remove and does it actually speed the computer up? Are there any other advantages to removing it such as less heat from not running as much/hard? And finally are there any programs worth keeping ie Dell dock etc...? Many opinions will be appreciated and thanks.

    Sysyem config: t9550 cpu, RGBLed 1080, 4670 1gb gpu and 320 @7200 hdd.

The 'bloatware' isnt trial-ware like more companies (HP) load the machine with.

Its mostly Dell Programs, like the Dell Dock (which I happen to like), Dell Data Safe, etc. Really, my machine came with almost nothing that I couldnt stop from loading up with one click. Also didn't notice it performing any less (and with your specs, neither should you).

However, if you get your machine and you think it has too much software on it (some people are just like germo-phobes when it comes to preinstalled software), then all you have to do is insert your Vista Recovery CD that you receive with the machine and do a clean install. Any of the Dell programs and drivers that you want all have a CD for you to install them with afterwards.

Switch your T9550 for the P8700. Virtually no noticeable performance difference and the heat is reduced dramatically.

just do a clean reinstall... especially if you want to try out windows 7 RC

but before you do that, you still have to boot into windows and activate all the program/software/services that you bought (eg antivirus like mcafee{sucks}, Lojack, Dell DataSafe Online)... if you fail to do so, you can still activate by calling dell, but it'll be more complicated and time consuming

that saying, i do a clean reinstall anyways because i need to repartition the HDD(get rid of MediaDirect and diagnostics, partition into Windows(60GB), Ubuntu(40GB), Swap(6GB), Documents(Rest)

Other than Dell tools, which can be easily disabled, and the like no bloatware at all. I was pleasantly surprised, this is with a SXPS 16 that I just received.

I've already got the order in production so not much to do about that hopefully the T9550 is not going to be that much hotter with the 9-cell battery lifting the comp and allowing more airflow..

I was hoping someone would be interested in checking the benchmarks. Please keep me updated.

That is what I had figured but I thought people might like some answers as it pertains to the studio xps series in particular.
Any other opinions and ideas would be appreciated.
