So I have had 3 different M1530 systems configured and in my cart over the last week and a bit. Basically becasue they keep changing the frickin "deal" on me. Then go ahead and delete the pricing in my cart. The last one specifically said "This deal on till Feb. 18th" and it only started like 2 days ago... Nuh-uh!!!!! Whammo this morning, Feb. 15th, deal is kaput and now if I even want to get close to any of the configs I had before I am paying about $150 more plus taxes. Frickin bastards lust leave the pricing alone for one week... one bloody week so I can wait for pay day to purchase... is that so much to ask for. I was going to buy today. But piss on them.. I am going to call and see if they want to deal... if not... hello Asus G1S!
Ok rant over![]()

lol yea welcome to dell world. where everyday is a new dealday!
go for the G2 wink wink -
Sometimes it's not even an everyday new deal... at one point they have deals in the morning and change it at noon time.
-
LOL. Dell Europe has been running the same deals since x-mas '07 and never bothered changing them. They offered double RAM and free shipping for months. IMO the best deals.
-
.
That and no coupon for the M1530. I'm not feeling the love here.... -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Darth Dell says:
"Perhaps you feel you are being treated unfairly? Pray I do not alter the deal further!"
-
LOL!!!
Love it Darth DELL.
Don't worry, if you have a Kiosk close by, just go there with print outs of U.S systems and Canadian systems, trust me, they will do a good deal (I've ALWAYS got a much better deal in a Kiosk then Dell EPP's 12%).
If NOT, Lenovo (Rebel Alliance??? LOL, or is that HP, kinda makes you think were surrounded by evil empires no matter which lappy we pick) has great deals through Visaperks.... check them out.
Buda -
Too bad they're shutting down the Dell kiosks: www.tgdaily.com/content/view/35865/113/
These coupons are almost always on the basis of how many are used rather than their expiration date (it's either one or the other). So, most likely, it's the case that whatever the limit was had already been reached by the time you wanted to use the coupon. =] -
Ah... Not in Canada....atleast not yet

Not sure if its the same elsewhere, but here in the UK, Dell change their offers every Thursday. It's a bit of a gamble to see what you get...
I passed on free shipping. I waited and got £100 off. This is big money for Dell UK, as their offers are pretty measly at the best of times. -

I called and talked to some guy and he was able to give me 1GB instead of the 2GB that the website wouldn't let me downgrade from. I hassled him a bit about the screen but as usual... he avoided the subject with reading me their own product code(s) and sku. Oh well.. maybe I'll get lucky, maybe I won't *crosses fingers*. Now awaiting confirmation email and 9-10 days delivery via Purolator.

It's called demand shaping. Whenever dell feels it will run out of 200G hdd drives, it will give out the 250g ones for less/as a deal.
Some of the fluctuations you see in deals are due to demand shaping. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
@ darksiege
Call them! That's what I did. I was only able to do so much with the config last night on the site and got almost the same as you with 2GB Ram. I didn't need 2GB but the site wouldn't let me choose 1GB (not an option). I have 3GB here waiting for my XPS. He also said he will get rid of the free AV cuz I didn't want that either.
My total was $1599 online I got $1529 with 1GB on the phone. And yes you could also get 1440x900 to help with the cost too. Helluva deal right now so I am happy -
Thanks for the tips guys! Now I just have to decide whether I should get the m1330 or m1530. I may do some CAD/solid modeling, so I'm not sure if the m1330 can handle it. However the m1330 has the new penryn CPU, which I would prefer over the meroms...decisions decisions..
-
I wonder how long before you can get a Penryn on an M1530.

Just looked at my estimated delivery... March 3, 08. Oh the agony that's much longer than 9-11 days unless he meant 9-11 business days
-
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
. Is Penryn over a Merom T7700 really going to be that much better performance for you? I know it's 6MB instead of 4MB Cache. But the rest just seems like it adds up to a little more battery life and maybe a little less heat? Not such a big step up IMO. If you were comparing a T5250 and a T8300... that's a different story. Not sure how well the 8400 does on CAD etc... I never used it or Solidworks. I really think the Quadro series is more suited to that stuff. Only 3D I see is FPS action

YA no kidding, lucky me!
I never saw an estimated ship date. Just order and estimated delivery date? Well I won't argue. Hope it gets here soon. Still no tracking number though. Maybe that'll show up tomorrow? I have also been trying to see my part numbers in Customer Support > Technical Support > My Systems... but it always comes back "can't locate" when I put my order and/or customer number in. Oh well. I hope it is not coming ground from Mexico or something... that'd suck. That's what they did to my buddy's 2407WFP. -
I think you have to call CS and get your service tag to get that info..cheers!

Ya these M1530s are pretty sweet. I can't wait to get mine. That's a nice config you have. Also a great deal. I see you have the 9c battery so you'll probably be using yours more out than I am. Mine's basically a desktop replacement that's going to hang around in the living room/dining room. Let us know if you pull the trigger.

Welcome!
Finally chatted with a CSR and got my Service tag number as well as my tracking number. The Purolator tracking info is every bit as helpful as the Dell tracking info, "In Transit" is all it ever says. Still waiting here with a ETA of March 4th.
On another note with my Service tag number I was able to add my 1530 to My Systems List and get a look at the part numbers. So I know now for sure I am getting the Samsung screen (part numbers below). I don't mind as long as it is not grainy. I can almost handle tinted whites but grainy would be a nightmare for me to look at. Here's to hoping.

I priced out a few Inspiron's 17"
For $1700 before tax I could have gotten same specs but with a 2.4ghz instead of 2.2Ghz, but with only a 160gig HD however Project red came with ultimate and not premium.
Or could have gotten 2.0Ghz with Blu-ray and a 250gig HD for $1600 (same price or there abouts as the project red) but again, premium and not ultimate
And neither Inspirons had bluetooth selected, or the webcam, which I dont really care about anyhow..
I think the 1530 project red's come with a finegrprint scanner? Which is kind of a "neat" thing.
Went with the project red basically for 2.2 with ultimate and a 250 gig hd, screen size wasnt a huge deal for me, as I will probably get a bluetooth k/b and mouse anyhow and hook the XPS to my 32" LCD(using notebook primarily for desktop replacement (P4 3.4 Ghz w/HT)
-
Hey, I just wanted to pop in and ask a question, because I ordered a m1330 from Dell Canada on 2/18/2008, about a week ago. The estimated ship date was ridiculous, it was 3/24/2008, more than a month off. I mean, damn! How reliable are the times? I jump on the forum and there are posts like "Ordered it last night, came in two days later". Should I be checking my mailbox now or am I getting my hopes up?
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
I think all 1530s have fingerprint readers. This notebook should make a good desktop replacement, that's sort of what I am using it for as well. I just don't want a desktop in my living room/dining room so a slick and fast 1530 will do nicely. I doubt I'll hook it up to any large screens on a regular basis. Maybe just to test it out though and see what it's like. I only have one TV so I kind of want the TV free for... TV! ...while myself or the wife is on the notebook.
At first my ETA was March 3, then it moved to March 4. I check 1-2 times a day and finally got my tracking number after chatting with a CSR just today... but even Purolator sucks and gives you useless info.
I think the parts are assembled in Mexico, then it has to come across the border to the US. Then across the border to Canada (maybe T.O. or Calgary) then finally to you. So even after it shows as "shipped" it's a LONG haul. -
I got the LED screen, yeah. How could I resist? I've been checking the order status, and it's been locked "In production" since day one. Eugh. It's my first laptop, too, so i'm just hoping there aren't any grainy screens or hardware mishaps that I have to deal with.
-
Dell usually over estimates shipping dates and will revise it and bump it up..."under promise and over deliver" to look better unless you have backordered items...mine was about 2 weeks early from the initial ship date...
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
I don't think you have to worry about a grainy screen with LED. If the 1530 had an LED option I would have paid $150 to get it. I'll let you know how long it takes from the day mine hit "Shipped" status to delivery and that should give you an idea of approx. how long yours will be once it says Shipped. My Purolator tracking info still says In Transit
-
lol...no doubt ..but the wait will be worth it ...I am so tired from playing with the thing last nite....more addictive than crack....I have learned many things lately with respect to wireless and ext hd ..streaming audio and video...gaming is awesome 30 pings on the wireless n on css ...you shall like!!! I swear when I turn "let 'er eat" on she says .."on your knees" ..I am a slave to it...cheers peeps!!! and looking forward to another 6 hrs sleep tonight if I am lucky....LOL!!!!
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
YAY, it's here it's here!!! I checked my Puro tracking again at about 9 this morning and it said "On Truck for Delivery". And here it is at 12:47. Haven't even opened the box eyet as I am at work. Guess i know what I'll be doing over lunch
Cheers mate's I'll post opening ceremony pics etc... later. -
lol!!get out the wine and cheese baby!!!...just when you light the candles don't spill any wax...roflmao!!!!
-
Well, my birthday is the coming 15th so it'll be a pretty awesome birthday, either way. If I don't get it before then i'll be bummed out, because watching your birthday go by and your laptop with it is just all
But thanks, I'm guessing it's because it's the t8300 (yay) and the led screen are what's going to make it take a little longer, but I'm still obsessive in that I check the Dell order page hourly. Dammit!
Ninja edit:
Aaaaaaaaaaaand I just saw you're reply. GRATS. This is my first laptop so the joy you're going through now will be multiplied 10 fold, or even, 11 fold (maybe?) when I get mine. So how long was it from shipped to get actually in your hands? By the way, i'm out in Newfoundland. So, yeah. I don't know if the ocean to cross is going to be an obstacle or anything.
Because, damn. Boats have been around longer than cars.
edit: left something out, my bad. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
My timeline was:
Ordered - Feb 15
Shipped - Feb 20
Delivered - Feb 27
Estimated Delivery was - March 3, then March 4.
All in all not too bad for me just under 2 weeks. Still haven't opened it though as I am still at work with super crazy, business breaking deadlines. I am sitting here wondering how cool my new laptop is that's still in a sealed brown Dell box :\
Ok back to work now so I can go home and play soon! -
I got the first part of my order in lol
ORdered the 1530 and a sleeve for it on Monday, and sleeve came today...
Now I just need my XPS to put in it
Thats actually pretty fast delivery... 8 business days...
Hopefully Ill have mine by the 6th then, and not the 12th -
Not sure if you know ..but it comes with it's own sleeve already...
-
Thunderball, what made you go for the 1530, anywhos? I was trying to decide between the 15 and the 13 and went for the 13, because i'm doing a lot of photography work and I love small laptops. I think lugging around a 15 inch would be kind of a hassle.
ALSO IMPRESSIONS
Let's have'em. Maybe I should migrate this to the 1530's owners thread. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
First Impressions! Sorry no photos yet I have been crazy busy.
1. It is bigger than I imagined. 15.4" widescreen is about as big as I'd ever want a laptop to be. The keyboard feels good and is pretty straight. I know others have complained of waved or curved KBs. I have a very slight curve on the function keys but it is barely noticeable and doesn't bother me while typing.
2. One of the USB ports is really hard to use. It is a very tight fit for any device to plug into there. At first I thought it was defective but a little playing and I managed to plug in my flash drive. Might loosen up over time?
3. Installing the Ram I bought for it was a breeze. One question if anyone knows... I have 1x1GB and 1x2GB, which should go in which DIMM for best performance? Does it even matter?
4. With 3GB Ram, 2.2GHz CPU and 7200rpm HDD it is FAST! I have done zero reformat or optimizations and I am quite happy with how Vista is performing so far. Can't wait to get it into real shape
5. It is very quiet. The HDD is almost silent. The Slot DVD is much quieter than my desktop LG DVD (sounds like a jet engine). But you can definitely hear a hum when watching a movie from the disc.
6. The screen is for the suckI really mean it. Viewing angles are non-existant on this thing. Even dead straight on you have serious variance in backlight. The whites are "grainy". I am going to chat with Dell later to hopefully get the LG screen *crosses fingers*. The glossy finish is not as bad as I have read from other people. At least not in the environment I am using it in. It is a bit of a mirror but is not bothering me. It's the Samsung LCD panel that sucks!
OK back to work for now.

@PenPal
I chose the 1530 because I wanted a gaming laptop that didn't look like a gaming laptop. HP was out because I don't like HP. And style is important to me so that left limited choice... Dell was the winner. But if I can't get a better screen I may have to return it and probably get an Asus G1S instead. -
Those are some pretty good reasons. Right now my desktop setup that is split between myself/my bro is excellent for playing games, and most of the PC games i'm interested in right now are of the indie variety, like GISH and Audiosurf, and other stuff like HL2 which runs fine on EVERYTHING. That means the 8400 is perfect for me, and the 8300 is damn fine, too.
oh: haha, neat. Graphics card then processor.
But, that sucks about the screen. Is there an LED option for the 1530?
Also, i've seen people running Crysis (albeit, badly) on the 1330, maybe it wouldn't be a bad route. But it is not viable at all for games this year, so... maybe not.
