Thinking the same thing. I priced the xk309 from Dell Parts. It's $290 plus $15 shipping. Being tired of dealing with the Dell machine I might just go ahead and get one and be done. Could problebly get $100 for the Samsung on ebay.

Can you get it cheaper than $290?

Thanks Thund3rball, since you seem to have a good idea on what's going on here...any suggestions for something almost as nice without the glossy screen?

I've been considering the T61p from Lenovo. Pretty stacked machine

Where did you find that part on Dell? I have searched high and low. Only place I found it is on eBay. After duties and brokerage I bet it'd be more than $290 + $15 shipping :p

    Can you link me?

I looked at one, but there's something about it I just didn't like...the 9 cell battery that sticks waaay out the back...the keyboard has really small arrow keys like a macbook, I don't get that on a 15.4" notebook.

I bought the 7250 with the 20% off coupon - my 1530 is stacked but "only" has a 7250. I was using a t7300 for a while and I don't see any performance loss in this processor. In a few months when the t9300 drops in price i'll just pop one in, huge savings on this end.

Same here, it was a great deal with the 20% off coupon. By the way, what LG screen did you get jb1007? I'm getting the KR515, but I've noticed people get the XP059 as well (both listed as LG).

I'm not sure you would like them, but I noticed that most of the Dell's (eg. 1525, 1720) at my local Staples have matte screens, not including the 1530. Staples is the only place in town that sells any non-glossy laptops. Before they got the Dell line, not a single store had a single laptop with a non-glossy screen.

I am not really sure who's got glossy or non, sorry. But I can tell you the other notebook I was looking at before I bought the 1530 was the Asus G1S-B2. It still looks pretty cool and is packed full of power for games and anything else you want to do. Maybe look in the Asus section or dig on the web to see if the screen is glossy or not.

    ASUS G1S-B2 Core 2 T7700 965PM 3GB 200GB 15.4IN WSXGA+ GeForce 8600M GT 256M Vista Premium Notebook - $1670

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27789&vpn=90NLBA613215JCQL450T&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1020

The T61p is a great bang for buck well built lappy, but I am a fashionista and its basic black boxy style is not for me. But many others on here like em just fine.

If you are looking for Dell than definitely go to Staples and see em up close as Fuzzy says, that's a great opportunity to see what you get.

I actually saw a 1530 from Staples today...way too glossy for me, sometimes I need it at the office and all I get is reflection.

Well there are the Lattitudes. They look like they are matte screens. You can get a Quadro GFX card in there. And I have no idea what the Precision M4300 is like but looks like it also has a matte screen and a beefy Quadro FX card. But then I think if you went with either of those you might as well go for the T61p. It's probably a better deal and built like a tank.

I got the KR515 - it's a great screen. I previously had an LG on my vostro (1680X1050) and it was slightly sharper than this one on the XPS - but no grains, so I'm a happy man!

    Wow hip hip HOORAY!

After a very long and strenuous bout of phone calls, emails, research, writing nasty letters... blah blah blah I am finally getting somewhere with Dell about my Samsung screen.

We have come to an agreement that they are going to refund me the cash amount that it is going to cost me to buy XK309 myself from Dell Parts. I cannot understand why this is a better solution for Dell than just swapping my screen out for the LG, but I don't really care.

Oh and I also got them to extend my 30 day return warranty another 2 weeks so i may properly evaluate my purchase.

I can honestly say this has not been easy and has at times left me extremely angry. But at least now it looks like I am getting what I paid for, finally.

Can I get a Boyah!?

    HIP HIP YEAH HUH.

I got my m1330 a few weeks back and i'm in love. It was wobbly, though, so I kind of fell out of love, but I said screw it. I'm not going to through a fit over a slightly, VERY slightly, wobble in my 1330, and all I did to fix it was pop off the foot under the right palm rest, put in a tiny amount of car sealer (black, hardens like a rock, doesn't melt when heated) and put the foot back on. Let it sit for an hour, and now my laptop is perfect, and I couldn't be happier.

I got the AMD Dual core turion for $10 and 512 more MB of RAM for $20. Now that AMD turion instead of the sempron is $190!!!

Glossy. I don't think a matte screen is available for the 1530, if one is I don't know the part number.

    ouch

Seems like an average deal for Canada. If it was me and that was the top end of my budget, I'd maybe find a way to get more warranty, like maybe lower the Ram and buy some at a cheaper store and lower the CPU a little (you won't notice the difference). But that's my personal preference. Otherwise looks like a screamin system :)

You do know that 4GB of Ram is not fully utilized by Vista Home Basic 32bit right? It's not a big deal but if you want to save a few bucks you could order less ram as I mentioned before.

Oh and yes I believe the DVD drive supports dual layer.
