Anyone know if there are any coupons out there for the XPS 15? I am trying to get my GF one for her birthday and was just curious.
Many thanks in advance,
DeeVu
Edit: I have checked the NBR coupons to no avail already

Yeah I was looking for one for the base model though. Guess I should've said that. She doesnt need more than an i5 or 500gb. Thanks though.

I found one for $70 off that works until the 31st. Searched for "Dell coupon codes" in Google to find it and clicked on one of the first results. Don't remember which. It stacks with other discounts; I used it successfully on an XPS 15 that already had $220 off for a total savings of $290.

Are any of these graphic cards capable of handling crysis 2 on med at 1920x1080? Is it worth it to upgrade from the 525m 1gb to the 540m with 2gb for $100?
-
Well the 525m is a LITTLE better than the 335m which is in my m11x and along with an i5 or i7 my computer gets around 25-40fps depending on settings. So Id image it can handle Crysis 2.

There's a world of difference between 720p and 1080p, though, at least in terms of how much a certain GPU can handle. From what I've read, not even the 540M is going to handle many new games in 1080p with decent settings. I can't say for sure, though. Don't have the system yet. At any rate, I've also read that the 1080p screen still looks awesome if you have to lower the res to 900 or even 720p for any reason. So, overall, Crysis 2 shouldn't be a problem, as DeeVu said.
I'd recommend upgrading to the 540M from the 525M, anyway, if you're planning on playing any recent games. Might as well pick whichever GPU can take you as high as you can go. At least, when the difference is only $100, and you're already configuring a $1000+ system. -
No, but I can play Crysis 2 @ 1080p in low settings (gamer). The fps drops noticeably in the higher settings

It is against Forum Rules to discuss fraudulent things like this..And, trying to take advantage of Dell EPP when you are no way affiliated to it, or a member is wrong.
OP, try signing up at dell.com to be sent coupon codes by mail, etc when there are deals available. -
Thanks for the quick reply. Is this with the 525m or 540? How does crysis look on low?

Ha ha! Funny how different people look at the same thing and come up with completely opposing conclusions! I was about to tell him that given the $100 premium, it's not a worthy upgrade, since 525 and 540 are essentially the same gpu, with exactly the same memory speed, only one's core running 10% higher... Both are midrange cards with similar specs and similar performance in real world (Im not talking benchmarks thought I know some people care if their score is 678659 vs. 678658). If there is a game that 540 can play with decent fps, chances are 525 will also handle it ok, and if there is a game that 525 cannot handle well, you are not likely to see much of a difference with 540 either. I would keep my $100 put it to better use, but then it's me, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion... Do as your heart says!
PS: Also keep in mind that the 540 upgrade comes with shorter battery life (it consumes 10W more and possibly could also run hotter) and a beefier (probably bigger/heavier) power brick as well. -
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I think im ganna pass on the xps laptop because I really would like my next laptop to last me through college. Im assuming if the 525m is only decent now, in a years time it will probably be useless.
-
I don't think the 525 or the 540 will be useless in only a year. Games aren't really evolving that rapidly. Look at what the PS3 and 360 can still do after 5+ years on the market. As for whether 525 to 540 for $100 is worth it or not, it was to me for the reason I already stated (a substantial tax refund doesn't hurt), but I was just posting what was on my mind. I don't know a lot about the technology, so you might be better off listening to someone like mazyarjr.
