Not to rain on Dell Dock's parade, but I can't imagine it's that great of a program.
Just get ObjectDock...it's prettier and easier to use!
The free version is very adequate:

Yeah I think OD itself does the job pretty well... very easy to use too.
But coming to the original issue, are you sure you are dragging the shortcut' or program' onto the 'right place' on the dock? -

I thought that the Dell dock was ObjectDock, modified by Dell, of course.

Apparently the free OD is still looking better -
going off topic now, whats that utility that comes on vista that lets you take a snapshot of the screen.

Snipping Tool.
A nice tip, if you go to the shortcut and define a keyboard shortcut, it makes it very handy. Mine is Ctrl+Alt+S -
-
Hit windows key and type in "Snipping Tool". If you don't find anything that way you need to go to
> Programs & Features
> Turn Windows Features On/Off
Enable "Tablet Optional PC Components" -

Can you set the shortcut so that it takes the pic, instead of opening the program where you have to select again?
-
I believe you mean thumbnails for open (and minimized programs). You CAN do that with ObjectDock, and extreme example of that can be seen here:

where can i define keyboard shortcuts?
-
hit the windows key, right click the icon that comes up in the start menu.
Then hit properties, then you will see a box about halfway down and enter the key combination and hit apply.
