I bought L502x with 540m on it around 8 months ago, so far it was a great laptop.

I started to have issues like when I play games randomly laptop gets unresponsive with a weird image on external monitor.

I connected it to my desktop monitor via HDMI.

This problem happens randomly as far as I know, I tried restoring laptop to it's first time but nothing solved. I tried with the driver came with factory image had same error less frequent, I updated to latest beta driver of Nvidia, and still same error.

I setup everest to monitor the temp of the gpu, last time it failed at 77 celcius, but had no problem while gpu is 89 celcius. So I don't think it's temperature related.

I contacted with Dell, they told me to try those diagnostics test and reinstall the OS and try again, and they keep saying if diagnostic test dont show any warning, then they cant sort out the problem, so they are driving me nuts.

I played Crysis 2 without problem but CoD MW3 is killing me with these errors. While I play weird images appear on screen, the game music keeps playing on background but laptop gets non responsive. I had to turn off from the button and turn back on.

Probably related, I had a similar issue occasionally when playing Batman Arkham Asylum using the HDMI Output (2 or 3 times tops), the game plays fine using the laptop internal screen. But now I getting the same symptoms that you have with MW3 when playing Skyrim.

Weird, what drivers you guys using? No problems with MW3 here on full settings and stock dell drivers.
