Pretty sure you can use it. AFAIK, Dell doesn't have any locks on what you can put in your PCIe slots. You'll just have to get your drivers straight from Intel if Dell doesn't have them.

AFAIK, Dell never locks its BIOS for any wireless cards. At least I've changed, upgraded or installed other than the stock cards inside my Dell notebooks.

HP and IBM/Lenovo are the ones which have this kind of lock mechanism.

Do you mean that you have subscribed to WiMAX plan in your place and 5350 cannot connect to your WiMAX provider?

There are WiMAX services already operating in some part of this world.

I cant even go to wimax options but wifi is running perfectly. When it comes to instruction it says either wimax or wifi is allow to work at 1 time. How am I suppose to connect? I'm just getting ready for wimax coz my country is launching it this year or next. Probably the problem occurs because I'm still in bios A02. It's the only bios that allow my 3.5G card to work... I found the 3rd party card thing (apply to 3.5G card only)..

It's either my wimax is not functioning or drivers not in place or i need 3rd party software? could be lock too... I'm just confuse here..

I'm having the same problem with this card and my M1330. I can connect to WiFi fine but Intel PROSet/Wireless WiMax Connection Utility always says "WiMax is not ready". I'd really like to figure out how to solve this :/

EDIT: I tried downloading the WiMax Driver + Connection Utility from Lenovo's website. Supposedly it installed 4 drivers (it asked me to confirm installation of an unsigned driver 4 times) but I still don't see anything new in Device Manager after rebooting. I'm still getting "WiMax is not ready". I even installed Lenovo Access Connections but WiMax is grayed out there too. This really sucks :/

Yamaki let's solve this problem together. Ok so far I've tried installing the wimax card to wwan slot. Yes card detected but intel wimax utility still show no go. I've downloaded the lenovo software too but I have no time to try till tonight.

So far to my understand wimax card need usb power just like 3.5G card. So wlan slot will not fully run the card hence only wifi is working.

I'm also looking for usb mod on wlan slot so I can use both my wimax and 3.5g card without swapping it. Now the problem is where to get the right software. Intel wimax utility seems to be lock to 2 operators or is it unlock?

Hmm...I wonder why the WWAN slot doesn't offer USB power. I guess Dell just didn't plan for that in the M1330. Do you have any idea how tough that would be to mod?

I think the Intel software is locked to Clear/XOHM. You can download Lenovo's Access Connections, and I'm pretty sure that'll let you connect to any WiMax network. Too bad our cards don't work so we can't test :(. I'll try to search around for that USB mod though. Go teamwork.

I live in Philadelphia, and apparently XOHM has already had towers up here for at least 6 months, with live signals. I'm not sure if you can access the internet through them, but I know you can at least connect.

thanks, it is actually work fine in wwlan slot without flashing back BIOS.

my idiotic problem was next: I have wwlan 5530 and WiMAX 5350

have a dream to set them together, no way for me.

I also did soldering of pins 36 and 38 parellel to bouth connectors... no success.

and one minor mistake, if you install Wimax in wwlan slot, yes it will work, but wifi cather no longer working, this is not so important, but!

so I cant find a way how to use 5530 and 5350 on laptop m1330

Note to get the WIFI catcher to work on the M1330XPS you need to download Dell Quicket from a newer model Laptop as I did. Dell_QuickSet_A05_R200494 but it does not end there.
Once you have installed the above Quickset which also supports DELL WWAN 5530 3G card you need to go to Program installed folder for Dell Quickset and copy the Quickset Program folder to your HDD (My Documents lets say) or USB key for later use. This builds is v9.2.13.0.
Now we need to install back our original Dell Quickset in my case v8.2.14.0 Run setup of Dell Quickset and yes over write files if asked.
Now once installed goto and open up Dell Quickset Program folder and have ready the files you have save from before to HDD or USB (v9.2.13.0) in this case and copy over these files (battery.exe, dadkeyb.dll, MobilityCenter.exe, QSResource.dll, WiFiLocator.exe) and only those files from (v9.2.13.0) into the Quickset program folder and when asked to over write files YES.
Now the only files which should still be of an older version are Quickset.exe, Hotkey.exe, and QSUI.exe.

Now run quickset click onto wifi catcher - radio control options and then advance settings now you can tweek your radio settings and Wifi Catcher switch will now work.

Why did I use the work around you may ask, well When I install my Intel 5300 WIRELESS and Dell 5530 WWAN cards it was not seen by the wireless switches.
By just installing Dell Quickset v9.2.13.0 which I got from Dells download page under Studio XPS Laptops that did work BUT the MobilityCenter from this package only had 2 maybe 3 Utilities so thats why I did the above work around from my M1330XPS.
    :D

Am I right, you solv the problem and get working 5530(WWLAN) and wifi/wimax on x1330?

where wimax card is plased? I do not get the point!

And, shortly, thouse version of quickset from dell which you point is for Vista?
I am using XP, a bit faster and easy :) imho.

As I realise the main problem for me is missing USB D-D+ lines for WLAN slot in x1330, WWlan slot contains this lines and only becouse of that 5530 is working fine.
I think it shold be possible to connect tvisted wires to wwlan slot as well, but I cant find a right solution.
any help and suggestion are welcome!

Sorry, what kind of install do you mean? I cant install Vista on XP! I can try to put some files from Vista pack to my QuickSet folder, but if you can send it to me only!

Do you have any information how to make WLAN slot to be the same like WWAN? I mean provide to WLAN(wifi) USB functionality, this is promising, and can help solving a problem for a lot of users.
In my quickset I have option to see networks from 3 different sourse, WIFI, Bluetooth and Broadband, and really do not get the point why I need to have Broadband futures on this! Broadband is just a mobile phone, nothins more! Ok in my case I have GPS functionality forking and so on, but there is no way to choose a network, you (I) cen choose another network for Broadband only in case using SIM on roaming (which is a bit expensive!)
so I do not understant why I need WiFi catcher for broadband.

What is interesting for me now is make cooper cooling for m1330, like you did, and find a way of using new wifi/wimax 5350 instead 4965agn(also not bad card). Thanks for your unswering!

First, this is NOT USB power, D- and D+ is twisted pair (line) for data transmission!

Second, USB can be connected in parallel, which I actually try without success, and I think my negative result is becouse I cant find a proper plase for pair soldering to the WWAN card, I think it is important to find two resistors on PCB 50 Ohm which is connected to WWAN USB and solder them by twisted pair to D- and D+ on WLAN connector. Just do not have anought time for doing this.

could you please to send to me (battery.exe, dadkeyb.dll, MobilityCenter.exe, QSResource.dll, WiFiLocator.exe) from your quickset? I like to try them on XP one by one, some times it can be compatible!

if it is not so difficult for you just add please txt extension to all of them or put them together in zip format and send to [email protected].

not big improvement for me, becouse a some dll is missing, van.dll for example.
wifi catcher do not show networks is arround! so, not complete set of files.

In wifi catcher now I can't choose what kind of band have to be scaned! 5GHz or 2. I am testin on 4965 (if remember corectly). with my old version all working fine, but not with new wifi/wimax... yes, I remebber you suggesion that new version is for new card... will see

but may be you can send full folder contents to me? actually have no idea what else form system folder I will need, some dll definetly, but what exactly, I do not know

mobility center do not startin, not working... have no idea why.

will try one more times if I will use new wifi/wimax pcb

@resetBIOS those file's were not installed by Dell' QS.
If you follow my steps above you'll be fine.
Here is the link for The Dell quickset version 9 I had used. http://support.us.dell.com/support/...eid=R200494&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=278102

Make sure you have to hand the setupfile of your original v8 Dell QS here http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=25&fileid=246466

Steps once again install DQS version 9 once installed copy it's Program folder to a safe location of your choice and rename the folder lets say Quickset v9 program files.

Now install your original DQS version 8 once installed copy these selection of files (battery.exe, dadkeyb.dll, MobilityCenter.exe, QSResource.dll, WiFiLocator.exe) from your saved Quickset v9 program files/ into your new install Dell Quickset Program folder.
Note please close down Quickset before replacing files

If you dont follow the step I laid out
    1. wifi locator will not function as it should.
    2. mobility center will not have the correct utilities in its matrix (you will have only 2 instead of 10)
    3. you will not have the correct radio band options or not at all

This will now allow for newer wireless cards to work in your M1330XPS with Wifi catcher..

Good luck and have a relaxing weekend... :)

finally I decide to leave my old wifi for a many reason...

but shortly will explain my experiments with QS:
I have latest QS for XP 9.1.3.0 and 8.3.17

I was trying all combination of installation and never wifi catcher working for 5350! 5350 was in wlan slot.
actually wimax is not widelly distributed, so becouse I do not need it for every day use and taking to account dificulties of installation I stop my experiments with wifi!

but will continue with usb! just for my curiosity! will let you know result.

    BlackRussian, thanks for help!

I got an Intel 5350 working (got it from ebay), both WiMAX and WiFI, on a Dell Inspiron E1505. I am in DC. There should be 2 network interfaces in the Device Manager, one for the wifi, and one for wimax. You can only use one at a time, and not both. The WiMax utility allows you switch between the two. FWIW, I can't get the same card working on a Dell D830. The D830 can't see the wimax interface. If anybody has any ideas to fix it for D830, please post.
