I was just trying to spec up a Dell M1330 on the UK website, only to find I can't configure it with a T7300. Can people also tell me what is the main difference between the 2 LCD options? The more expensive one has a weaker webcam?
I was thinking of getting the following:
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dell...20&rbc=N0713307 &s=dhs&sbc=ukdhsrsxps_m1210_1
It's a base spec but with a T7300 (might call them to get this processor) - would that be fine? There's nothing else worth upgrading on this right?
-
Deffinatly give them a call you can haggle a discount that way too.
The website is a little screwed at the moment they will sort it next week.
The more expensive of the two screen is LED backlit. This offers greater battery life and improved brightest over the standard screen as well as being thinner and lighter. -
I'll see what happens.
-
I called them up just to price the 1330 and see how much i could get it down to and they were only willing to offer me free shipping. That is not a great deal at all. Sony were willing to offer me free warranty cover. The price came to £1,320. Let us know what they offer it to you for.
If i ever did want the 1330 i would get it from the US next week as the prices in the UK are a bit to high.
Edited to add:
They called me back and offered it to me at £1,250 for one with the 2ghz SR and all the extras. I would need to get them down to £1,100 before i was seriously interested as i can get this in the States for £1000 with the accidental cover thrown in as well. -
lol i just ordered the Dell. I mailed them my final offer to the person who i was talking to and they came down to £1,188 which is not bad and about the same price as a student MBP would cost the free insurance thrown in.
So i brought them down from 1,380 to 1,188. This model will sell better in the UK if i want to sell it compared to the US model. I also have a UK Keyboard as well so i don't have to change that.
This is the specs that i will be getting. I was dead set on getting the Asus W7S but i just changed my mind today.

I took the time and effort to spec a machine up this afternoon perfectly suiting my needs, with the following discounts,
Quido 4.5% clickthru
Sky 5% code
and finally a £70 off refferal from dmxdimension
After completing my order, it gave me no internet order number (it was just blank on the 'order complete' page) and several hours later I have had no email confirming anything at all.
Suitably unimpressed. -
Well I managed to order the following:

That's not too bad? Managed to get them to throw in a printer - not the best in the world considering I already have a multi-function epson at home. Stuck with the 120GB as I might be sticking in a smaller 100GB 7200RPM later. The sales guy also said he'll up the shipping to "high priority" - whatever that means... :O -
kbc you got a good deal. You could have got a very close price to that as well if you checked out with the skyperks 10% deal and you checked out through the link below but you would not have got the free printer. If you check out with the link below you also get free Norton Antivirus security for 3 years.
http://www.dmxdimension.com/blogcategory/dell_uk_xps_m1330.html
Also it seems that this morning that they are offering the 2.4 processor for the price of the 2.0 processor do you think that they would have to honour this if you placed an order for it now? They started to a few days offer the 2ghz as an option on the Dell website. -
I made my offer on the phone and was warned that I could not ammend the offer once it has been placed...
-

They don't offer the 2.4 model at all now i was told.
I canceled my first order with Dell with the specs and price that i gave earlier in this thread. I didn't get a great deal on that order for £1,188 that i had previously.
I then ordered again and got the 2.2, 2GB 160HD 5400, backlight, fingerprint reader, 3 years warranty, wireless n, bluetooth standard, free modem, and the free 3 years virus software for 1,240. I think that this was an ok deal i am going to cancel that order. I may as well because my order has been put back and i won't be in the UK when it ships.
I am negoitating at the moment to get all the above specs but with a 4 year warranty for £1,176 instead of £1,240. I just have to accept their offer.
bbsara you got an excellent deal. There is so much variation in how much Dell charges.
Edited to add:
The deal closed at £1,195 which i am very pleased about. I got it for £45 cheaper it is not a huge difference but i wanted to get it just under £1,200 lol and i also got another year warranty which will be a good selling point. -

good price though man
-
The T7300 hasn't existed as an option for a while on the swedish site either... Have they run out of stock?
This computer is just a bit too expensive for me, I still have a week to see if I can decide on what to buy -

The T7300 is now back as an option on the Dell UK website. It's +£94 from the T7100.

Even though as mentioned its "not available"... I always thought laptop shopping would be easier these days.. -
I paid £1170 for
T7500 2.2GHz
2gb of Ram
200gb 7200rpm Hard Drive
8400GS
LED Screen
9 Cell battery
Plus wireless etc..
probably could of haggled a little bit more but just wanted to get it ordered. -
-
I got the following spec from Dell for an M1330 two days ago. I didn't go ahead with the order due to 4-5 week delivery time.
2Ghz Core 2 Duo - T7300
2GB RAM 667Mhz
13.3" LED Screen 1280x800 TrueLife
Fingerprint Reader
120GB 5400RPM HDD

9 Cell Battery
£900 inc VAT and Delivery.
For £1020 I upped the HDD to 200GB 7200RPM and the warrenty to 2 years. Well worth it IMHO.
Dunno if anyone has a better price, I thought that was very decent. Should give you an idea of what level of discounts are available. -

So not sure if I have got a good deal or not compared to the above. -
Can someone let me know their postcode and /or order number as they wont let me have any of the similar deals without some previous basket information.. arghh.. anyone ?
-
Sorry mine included 4 years warranty. If anyone beats my deal i'll be moaning to my account manager lol.
Some of you got some really good deals though..such a good laptop for the money..on paper at least. -
-
Thats not fair! -
Arggghhhhh... I must be directed to all the anti-deal reps... anyone got suggestions of how to approach this please... how did YOU get your deal.. what did you say to them...
-
mrkuji, if you're struggling on the phones try using the codes knocking about to spec up a machine online, ok so I might be a few pounds short of some of the deals on here, but frankly value your time!
I can't stand talking on the phone to these call centres, they have had to ring me twice and I have hated both calls!
On another note, my quidco got validated today, another £36 off -
Ordered on 09/07/07 via telephone...

You know i have worked out how much everybody has saved so far in terms of price paid and money saved lol.
My saving worked out at £408 on the top model and its works out quite a bit more if i had configured the base model. Homer J you got an excellent deal you saved £421 based on the current top model. I am really pleased with my deal.
I doubt that Dell is making any profit on some of these deals that some of us have got in this thread. -
Pretty good deal!
I just noticed Dell apparently included bluetooth as well, I didn't even ask for it (don't use it that often, just for my phone but the cardreader is included so heh) LOL -
Wow, HomerJ did get a GREAT deal.
You can include me in your list too rachuk (although I'm not based in the UK)... I saved 330EUR = 225GBP.. but I'm happy too
-
...and does anyone want to share their tips on this haggling.. either im being retarded or dell have chosen to be gits to me.. they just wont budge much on the price.. its all very well saying yes we got a deal.. but how.. I have tried the skyperks and the dmx but just cant see how some of you managed a £500 discount........
help...i need somebody... -
mrkuji, I don't want to question anyones integrity on here, but get the best deal you can and be happy with it, I myself don't believe everything I read
-
ditto
The first thing I am asked is do I have a product code to the machine! Which one do I pick?
I think most of the deals here are much better than the one I have been offered. -
Yeah I keep getting asked for an order number or a postcode then they promise to match any offer already given.. of course NOONE wants to give any of that information... then its just round and round and round on the phone... thanks isdoo and matt.. just glad im not (maybe) going mad here..
-
I'm fairly sure i would get my account manager in trouble if i started telling everyone how to get £400 - £500 off list..
best thing for you guys to do is get a job and then open a business account with them -
I was also told buy my seller not to give his details out as he will not honor the price for anyone else. i was on the phone for a total of 2 hours to get my price.
i told him i have the Dell XPS 10% discount code and he applied that right away but i still haggled some more telling him i can get the apple mac book cheaper with the same spec but want dell for the excellent support they provide. he said we can match that so the call went on.....
Finally we made a deal. -
-
Ok this is some progress thanks for the help.. I am currently being offered after about 12 calls the same spec as listed rachuk.. but with a 9cell battery not a 6 cell.. inc vat and deliv £1253.26
I think I am realising that their sales people are just hardnosed.. and you have to keep toying with them, being interested...
Bbasra.. you are right they didnt like me putting them on hold to chat to incoming apple sales rep... price dropped 150quid straight off... hehe -
I'm looking to order a M1330 but am not having much luck finding coupons/discounts. So far I have:
Sky 5% off - PWTSRB?0HBF?BM
dmXdimension £70 off - http://www.dmxdimension.com/blogcategory/dell_uk_xps_m1330.html
Does anyone have any other discount codes? From the sounds of it the best deals are done over the phone but I wanted to spec one up online to use as a base price for when I call up. -
Good luck. -
-
I configured my laptop and then asked the rep to give me a few hours to think about... at that point, the price was £1213. He rang me a few hours later and offered me a further £200 discount. I still said that it was expensive and after a few minutes (of hagling) put the phone down! He rang me back the next day and offered £980 + delivery. I said that I could only go upto £900 + delivery... In the end we agreed on £950 + free delivery! He started giving me talk of his job being on the line etc. Not sure how true this is, but I am generally pleased with the deal!
I have heard from someone at work, that Dell reps can usually give discounts of upto 10% to 40% on quoted prices, though they can only use the top end (40%) once a week! Is this true??? -
I did the same start as rachuk ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2134928&postcount=9)
Took a good number of hours and about 14 phone calls.. Lots of refusals and complaining that Apple will give me a better deal.. i think I refused like this:
With 9cell battery
£1750ish (online price)
£1600
£1375
£1183 (lower spec 120gb/3yr warranty/7300 processor)
£1288 (back to top spec)
£1235 (I said chuck in an extra 6 cell battery for £1250 all in)
£1270 "absolutely maximum discount can offer.. you want a free wireless mouse"
NO... but if you make it £1250 you can have my card number and we can finish this up right away...
Finally settled on £1255inc Vat and delivery.
its NOT easy process.. they are hardened sales people.. but clearly persistence will give... "Call me back in 10mins, i will speak to apple -- you speak to your manager and let me know what you can do".. etc etc
Thanks to all that gave some advice..
Dont bother calling at night.. nowhere near as helpful as in the daytime.. and pretty rude imo -
@mrkuji, you got a very good deal esp with 4 Years Warranty.
maybe i should have bargained some more for extra warranty. :-S
