My battery died and I bought an off-brand replacement from ebay. I was running the laptop off the AC adapter just fine. I stuck the new battery in (which didn't quite fit right), charged it for a few hours. Then I plugged in the AC adapter and turned on the computer. The power light comes on for 3 seconds and then it shuts down. What could this be? My M1330 is out of warranty now.

I took the laptop completely apart: no LCD, memory, hard drive, network cards, etc. It still doesn't turn on. The blue light glows for 3 seconds and then it shuts off. No beeps. The fan doesn't spin. Dead. Anyone have any idea how to further diagnose the problem? And how can a new battery kill a laptop?

    Thanks.

The same thing happened to my m1330 twice. A motherboard replacement fixed it both times although Dell eventually gave me this crap 1640 replacement since I'm still under warranty. I believe it is due to a motherboard failure although I'm not entirely sure. I'm guessing the battery gave the motherboard a bit of a "shock".
