Hey im looking at the dell XPS M1530 and id like the 9 cell battery. Im hesitant though because it looks like the 9 cell raises the laptop into the air? can anyone confirm that? Ive read reviews on how the 9 cell increases the keyboard angle, but the pictures make the laptop look like theres nothing supporting it but the front and the battery in the back. I may be wrong but isnt that bad on a laptop?

this may be a newbie question but any help will be appreciated

The battery is usually pretty much in there and quite durable. I'm not an M1530 owner so I couldn't completely confirm, but a raised laptop generally more comfortable typing and often times better ventilation during gaming/heat generating tasks.

I'd just be more wary of fitting it into whatever case you have.

im wondering if typing or resting your hands on it could potentially hurt the laptop in the future since its unsupported in the middle???

    Hi there ;) :)

    The 1530 is awesome! :D
I have both the 9cell and 6cell battery..9cell for home/primary, 6cell for when *out and about* and such ;)

With the 9cell it is elevated a *tiny bit* in the back...But it's nice because it raises the back of the lappy ~ and for me tends to make it easier to type! The plus is that it also allows for *ventilation* underneath.

And, it hasn't ever been an issue. Also, you will have no issues of *hurting the laptop*, (when typing or resting your hands), it is well supported!

The way that the 9cell sit's in the back, allows for the front to *lie flat*, so you have no worries there ;) :) And, there is plenty to support it.

    Hope that helps ;) :)

I have to agree. I have had my m1530 since 6/26 and having the 9 cell is great. My two previous laptops sat flat so I had to invest in a laptop pad that would facilitate ventilation. This meant carting a piece of plastic with me everywhere I wanted to use my laptop.

I now just carry my laptop in my bag instead of having to stuff the pad in there and risking damage to the m1530.

And why would you avoid getting some extra time with 9 cell. So far the extra time has helped me out considerably.

I agree I always used to prop up my old laptop just to help w/ ventilation and having an extra capacity battery do it for me is just gravy.

yeah the 9 cell in my m1330 is definitely a great thing. Same as the others. easier to type plus gets way more ventilation down there which is good given that there is a fan.
Small hick up, doesn't snugly fit in the the slip case dell sends with your NB. it still fits well just bulges. Anal i know!

Out of curiosity, did you get both the 9cell and 6cell together when purchasing XPS 1530? I just order My XPS 1530 with the 6cell battery but it will be very nice to have an extra 9cell battery.

The laptop will stand up to the abuse your typing will give it. Any weight from your hands on it won't affect it one bit, even ten years from now. Your harddrive or battery is far likely to fail before the weight of your hands on its unsupported middle. Well, statistically, you'll probably spill something on it before even the hard drive fails.

Your palms rest on, believe it or not, the palmrest, which lies right above the front end of the laptop which will be resting on your desk. You'll hardly apply any pressure to the unsupported center (only the pressure of you pressing the keys). It's like asking if sitting in your car will break it because you're not sitting directly on top of the axle.

Yes, I did! I ordered them together when I purchased my 1530...It was cheaper to do it that way vs. purchasing separately ;) :)

    Yes, I really prefer the 9 cell battery ;) :) :D

Are there any good sites that sell the 9-cell. Dell.com is very expensive and I have not seen many on ebay.

A few that google pop-up with seem to be not very reputable.

I read a suggestion from a reputed NBR member sometime back that by rule / common sense / whatever, its always better to get a battery with an OEM on it, meaning from the manufacturer... So there, you might want to think about it.

But on the other hand, there was someone who said they got it off EBay from someone who got a Dell but who gave away their battery.. So you might wanna check on EBay.. though I dont know how good / reputed the seller is... Choice is yours. Good Luck :)
