Hello, I recently bought a new dell M1530, and I wonder if it's normal for the adapter connector not to go fully in.

It is a PA-10 family adapter (which the back of the laptop says is fine for use with this computer), the connector has a white tip and when I plug it into the jack on the left side of the computer there is about a quarter of an inch of metal showing.

Thank you very much for your help

I think it shouldn't be sticking out. Does it work even not being fully in? Check inside the jack, maybe there's something blocking.

It works fine, it's actually my second XPSM1530 (the previous one was replaced on account of a defective DVD drive from the day I received it), and it also had the same feature. Unless of course Dell lied about replacing the whole machine and simply replaced the drive.

Can anyone with this model comment on which adapter they have, and whether it fully goes in?

    Thanks

edit: I found some pictures that look similar, so I guess it is normal.

Wish the harddrive wasn't so noisy though...

    Buy an SSD

... but have you checked that it's not just your fan running? Oftentimes the two sound very similar.

I'm pretty sure it's not the fan, at its worst it sounds a lot like the .mp3 in this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=218194). But sometimes it's silent.

I guess I am very paranoid about this laptop, considering that the first one I was sent (a brand new one) was defective, and the replacement they sent me didn't have any of the accessories that are supposed to come with it (like the remote/cd case etc.)

Very unhappy with dell customer service.
