 I've been reading a lot of negative comments regarding Dell's laptops, especially with the screen for M1530. I don't know if it's just Canada, but I am seeing that all laptops go through 4 stages when producing a laptop... and one of them is testing finished laptops to make sure that everything's good to go.

I understand that there may be some technical issues, but wouldn't it be very simple for Dell factory to know whether there's something wrong with the screen or not? If the screen is grainy or if it has other problems... wouldn't anyone be able to tell? I don't see how there are so many unsatisfied Dell customers if they go through all the process?

Just food for though, albeit a stupid one.

It should be noted that most cases you read about are "bad" since people with good expierences have no real reason to post, although some do.

There was a post I read awhile back by an individual who linked to how Dell does their checks; it was an article looking into a Dell factory.
However, from what I remember, they don't have technicians inspecting each and every machine that goes out but rather they mount all the laptops of a particular batch to a machine that tests to see if all the major components are at least functional.

I'll hopefully edit this if I can find that article or post again.

    EDIT: Found it!

    That's the QC part,
http://hardware.silicon.com/desktops/0,39024645,39153906,00.htm is where the article starts.

The article suggests much more person-to-laptop contact, but you never know what the reality is like.

I wouldn't honestly worry about it. If Dell really had too many problems then they wouldn't be in business.

Overall they do a good job, and the ones they mess up on you hear about. End of story.

I've bought 2 Dell laptops over the last 1.5 years (an inspiron 6400 and a vostro 1710) and my sister has also bought one (vostro 1500). Both of my laptops were fully functional, hers had a faulty battery which was exchanged within 2 days. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about that. :)

Right, but there's a lot of fuss about XPS... and I ordered one. I am deeply concerned about "horrible" Samsung screen, as others mentioned with dread. (I can feel their soul evaporating.. LOL)

I also ordered an m1530, can't wait to get it :) mine has a led screen though.

Which screen resolution are you getting? From what I heard only some WSXGA screens are using those "problematic" Samsung's.

In that case, since your screen res is only wxga+ I don't think that issue applies to your screen at all. I might be wrong though.
